Regular Gobots

These small figures made up the bulk of the line, and were also the backbone of Japan's Machine Robo series. Each figure was sold carded. Those with MR-## or MRD-### designations stamped on them were taken directly from the Machine Robo series, while those with MRT-## designations, were designed by Bandai exclusively for the Gobots line. Those without any number were unreleased Jpanese prototypes issued only in the West. One notable variatation between the releases of Tonka (America) and Bandai (Japan/Europe) is that the former's small figures only came with factory stickers, usually omitting a number of decals compared to the latter's (there were also occasional changes, usually the conversion of Japanese text to English).

Super Gobots

These larger robots had three main sources - Machine Robo's Scale Robo DX (the 1984 releases, plus Defendor) and Big Machine Robo series (the remainder of the 1985 figures), and some specially-designed toys (the 1986 series). The numbers given to the figures by Tonka, while in sequence, seem a little arbitrary. The figures are listed in numerical order, which means the second series come at the top, then the first series, and the the third.

Playsets

Each faction had a spaceship which turned into a base, also doubling as a carry-case for smaller figures. These were build to scale for the regular Gobots, and designed by Tonka.

Action Toys

These simple Gobots were designed by Tonka, and were simple friction-motor vehicles. Zod didn't even have an alternate mode, while Scales had a simple "pop-up" transformation.

Wendy's Exclusives

Small plastic figures avaliable at the Wendy's fast food chain for 99¢ with a meal. These are simple little toys, and I left them out for a while wondering whether they were toys or simply merchandise (inidentally, the Arcobots come under the latter, and thus don't make the list). However, they do have bios which is more than can be said for, well, pretty much all of the other figures, and people have emailed me saying I left them out. So in they go... These simple figures were purpose-designed by Tonka.

Combiners

Both Gobot Combiners were composed of six members, and needed no additional parts to combine. Puzzler was sourced from the original Machine Robo Series, while Monsterous was Devil Satan 6 from the follow-up Japanese line, Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos. Boomers

Another simple range added on by Tonka, Boomers were motorised, and changing involved a robot head emerging from the vehicle. They could also fire a hollow plastic ball, which split in half - the advertising campaign suggested messages could be placed insider. The same mould was used for both figures.

Secret Riders

These larger figures were all motorised, with Tork and Twister also having working winches. These figures were designed by Bandai for a line named Zenmai Kahen Winch Robo, and were then co-opted for the Revenge of Cronos tie-in line. Tonka took on the figures at the same time, though the Winch Robo versions had already been issued in Europe under the Robo Machine banner.

Dread Launchers

These Gobots combined two vehicles to form one robot. Not to be confused with the Double Machine Robo Japanese figures that appeared in Europe as the Robo Machine Combinators. Despite the fact I managed to leave that mistake in for about six months. These were commissioned from Bandai by Tonka, and were exclusive to the West.

Power Marchers

Licensed from another Japanese line, these remote-control motorised, non-transforming robots were tacked onto the end of the Gobot line by Tonka. They didn't come out as part of Robo Machine or Gobots in Europe, but a totally seperate line, and are thus listed as US only.
