Ashlee Simpson receives loud chorus of boos at nationally televised event

Singing live certainly didn't spare Jessica Simpson's younger, acid-reflux-suffering sibling from the wrath of the 72,000 at the packed Orange Bowl Tuesday night.

In a performance preserved for all eternity on the Internet, and broadcast by ABC during halftime of the national championship-determining college football game, a strutting Simpson belted, some say screeched, her Autobiography cut "La La." At the conclusion of the number, the crown jeered, some say booed. One particularly vocal critic could be heard shouting, "You suck"--at least in the clip found on the Simpson-monitoring site, LipSync.us.

And it wasn't just Orange Bowl attendees whose ears were offended by Simpson's routine. In a commentary on MSNBC.com, Michael Ventre wrote that Simpson's singing "sounded like a cross between a political prisoner being tortured and a test of the Emergency Broadcast System."

I hate to hear such bad things happen to her...

Wow. All this over something as silly as lip-syncing, since every damn one of them does it. You'd think she'd murdered someone on stage the way they go on about it . . .

Her carear is dead, dead dead dead! She should just stop now. She can't sing, she proved that on SNL, and she can't do a live performance, proved by SNL & the Orange Bowl, but now she is going to try a live tour?? That will be some sh1tty ticket sales :rolleyes:

God, this Ashlee Simpson crap is irritating, and that's just hearing it from you lot. I'm glad she was never let in the country [well, maybe she was and we just didn't make a fuss... but thenl we wouldn't declare war on Janet Jackson for showing a bit of her nipple, so who cares?].

Hurhur Ashlee can't sing. Yeh, heard it. Saw your ****ty GIFs of the SNL thing. Piss off now, do something worthwhile like shoot yourselves.

That really puts me off.

Dont think her songs are much cop either.

This Simpson lass - looks ok ****ability wise. Couldn't care less about her music. I dont watch or listen to anything that would remotely be linked with her though, so I doubt I'll ever be exposed to her.

That part at the end she sounded like a dying seal...nothing like 70000 ppl booing you off the stage, eh baby? And they have the nerve to call that "entertainment". Last I checked football fans are not fans of untalented hackneyed manufactured pop, so that was bad idea number one right there. So too was anyone believing she had any talent whatsoever...she wasn't even the least offensive Simpson in the stadium; OJ manages to pull that off, and if you're more offensive than a double murderer, that's saying something.

It would say that society's so ****ed up that they think that lip-syncing because of a medical condition (yeah, acid reflux can **** up plans for singing, so I'll give the girl the benefit of the doubt. Even if that wasn't true, every pop singer does it, or has done it) is worse than killing two people, right?

Yeah, she's not big star hot, but if I saw a girl, who looked like her walking down the street, I'd think she was cute. Of course, I've always been more attracted to the cute girl walking down the street than any given celebrity . . .

You've just there laid out the reasons why no one should ever give pop music the time of day. If I had to pick between sitting next to Orenthal or listening to that tripe again, I'd pick Orenthal. And I think there are a few ppl who'd agree with me.

Er, at this point, snowballing hatred of Ashlee is based at least as much upon her staggering lack of talent as the SNL incident. If nothing else, the SNL debacle drew everyone's attention to the fact that she never, before or after the incident, had a single shred of talent to speak of. She was always awful, and her putrid Orange Bowl performance, complete with off-key crooning and annoying screeching, solidified that indisputable point. Sure, plenty of artists lip-synch under certain circumstances, but there's a tremendous difference between Ashlee doing it and, say, Madonna doing it.

The only difference is that the public seem to tolerate Madonna doing it. It's just as **** no matter who does it, and I don't personally see any difference between the two.
