why is Predaking/the Predacons (G1!) so cool?

Post by Jimmi Magnus »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sets the original predacons apart from the rest of the toy line. Here in Denmark they are the only models that I have never seen, and on Ebay people tend to demand alot more for predacon items than for any other TF-toys of similar size/condition.

I think they're very popular because they are the only gestalt team where all five members are Mega sized, where as most other gestalt teams were made up of deluxe/basic sized toys for the limbs and only one Mega sized toy for the torso.

I agree. They were all big, and just seemed to be able reck havoc easier.

Plus they had spiked fists, now you knew that would hurt even the mightiest of Autobots with one blow.

Biggest problem is that on eBay going rate is about $15 a Predacon [not too bad], $20 a fist [ouch!], $30 a foot [kazam!] and around a million dolalrs for his head... definetly worth saving up $150-ish to buy the whole thing in one go...

Actually Cliffy you can get Predaking for about 70 bucks, usually on EBay, though. In comic shops he's more like 150.

He's cool because the Predacons are cool; everyone wanted them soon as they made their first appearance. They were the first real "beast" Decepticons, really, so that means in part that they had a lot going for them, to say nothing for the fact that they were actually used rather well in the series.

Is it just me, or am I the only one hearing rumours and seeing signs that TFs are actually not fetching the inflated premiums they were in the previous couple of years?

Just nosing around... I got all the Predacons seperatly, wth one foot and the head. I've improvised the rest and while he doesn't look A1, I'm f*cked if I'm gonna pay about $40 [not an exagerration] for a foot and two hands...

Maybe it's due to the recent Japanese re-releases of many of our favorite bots, and the increased availability of access to Japanese markets through the internet?
Just a theory

Add to that the possibility of further re-releases(one figures they'll get to the combiners sooner or later), and your price is driven down. Complete Rodimus Primes would go for 65 before, but I betcha now they go for more like 50 unless they have steel toes on account of the rerelease.

I'd "blame" the rereleases. I don't mind not having to drop and arm and a leg to buy a hand and a foot.

If it weren't for reissues who would have God Ginrai? That thing was the holy grail of Japanese figures and now most of us have one.

Yes, I hope they reissue Star Convoy. I think that's the only G1 version of Optimus Prime that I don't have yet, besides actionmaster Prime.
