Another Transformers the Movie thread

Hey, you guys notice that the new characters in Transformers the movie are more rounded and human-like, while the recurring TFs were angular, boxy, and less human. What do you suppose is the reason for the new style in the new characters?

With the exception of Ultra Magnus, about five to ten years of toy design.

I think that's a good reason, but I also think that is is because that way they look more futuristic.

In plot: They weren't reconfigured by the Ark.

Reality: Hasbro stupidly decided to take the characters into space and into contact with other races, thus precipitating an erosion of the Earth context which kept casual fans buying.

Was their any logical reason to go with the furturistic designs?

There were plenty of vehicles on earth to be done, not like they could run out of ideas there.

Or did the hasbro designers (and takara as well? or was hasbro still in control at that point?) find that making realistic toys to restrictive?

Though we did get the head masters and stuff like that

The next time we got anything realistic and original was the micromasters

Wasn't the more smooth and rounded design kinda hinted at with Alpha Trion, the fembots, and Def-Con?
