Chase from Captain Power. Awful figure (look at the arms!) and never had any of the toys or gimmicky light gun stuff as a kid but did get thoroughly engrossed in the UK annual. It looks like there's been a recent warehouse find of MOSC stock, so an interesting if fairly common curio for less than most modern toys.

Marvel Legends Spider-Woman

I don't follow the comics closely enough to know where this black-and-red version of Jessica Drew is from. It looks like she got lost and took a costume from Miles Morales' closet by mistake. It's a nice look for her, though after having it for a few days I think I prefer the way her dark hair stands out from the outfit in her original look. My wife got it as a Christmas gift for me after noticing that it caught my eye in a store. It's definitely not the way I see the character in my head, but it's a significantly better toy than the more classic figure I've got from seven or eight years back. Better joints, and it stands a lot better because the designers didn't put 50% of the weight into the butt and chest. Maybe one day they'll get around to sculpting female figures that look human around the waist too? But it's definitely a step up from the older female figures. I was immediately compelled to use the open hands, though, because the fists she came with were really tiny.

The original design by Dave Johnson apparently has enough of a torso to fit vital organs, although there's other non-Euclidean things going on with it.

Warcry wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 4:37 amThe sculpting on this figure is amazing. The head sculpt looks like it jumped right off of the page. The 90s comic-print shading is subtle enough that it doesn't look weird on a 3-D object, too, which is something that comic/cartoon-accurate figures from all sorts of companies seem to struggle with. It's probably been half a decade since I bought a non-transforming action figure that looked this cool.
Got one of these after cancelling some MOTU pre-orders that are unlikely ever to be fulfilled to smaller retailers, mainly just because it looks cool. Haven't gotten him out yet and based on reading around a bit (and the art of the side of the packaging!) it seems a bit of a missed opportunity that there's no palm tree accessory, but I can see why people go for cel-shaded style figures when they're done this well. Just not so much on TFs where it's inherently more obviously faked from other angles. This is more subtle.

In related news, looks like it's second time lucky for a retail figure of this guy... and some prawn guy I don't recognise and seems a rather random pairing.

Masterverse Shadow Weaver for not quite as cheap as ID were clearing them a couple of weeks ago, but still way below RRP. Much nicer than the inaccurate stock photos, the cloth cape works well and possibly nicer overall than the Classics with the visible torso joint. Certainly easier to come by for anyone who didn't snag that at around the time it came out. Which I did and is why I've mostly held off on Masterverse, but it's nice to have a few desk figures as well and not be as concerned about cats with.

Bit more on The Authority, need to symbol up Midnighter at least and not a great angle on Jenny (does have a neck) but getting to the "eh, good enough" standard I was aiming for.

Mmm. I only really know what he looks like based on the From Dusk 'Til Dawn era, but can see it. The head is Marvel's The Hood so there may be a direct source material reference in those comics too.

This guy, abducted by aliens and augmented to talk to cities, is https://www.writeups.org/jack-hawksmoor ... ch-comics/ -- lots of fun weird shit in that era of Wildstorm comics. It didn't really last, Ellis was the definitive writer and some of Millar's stuff is okay. Would boil the iconic parts down to the original 12 issue run + optionally the Secret History miniseries and the earlier Ellis StormWatch collections such as Change or Die for anyone who wants a bit more on the core cast. How much more Millar it's worth picking up probably depends on how much you like other 'edgy' writers such as Ennis.

The bits are all fairly recognisable to their source figures, but...

Jenny Sparks = the DC Direct figure + a ML Sharon Carter head.
Engineer = ML Jocasta with the distinctive front head bit removed + blue eyes.
Jack Hawksmoor = ML Agent Coulson - tie + ML Hood head + wrestling figure bare feet.
Apollo = the DC Direct figure.
Midnighter = a cheap DC Batman figure + ML Punisher coat + some filing/paint + baton.
Swift = ML Meggan + Dupli-Kate head + LEGO wings.
The Doctor = a ML Dr Strange + ML Peter Parker head with some paint.

And minor things like hand swaps etc.
