I bought myself a copy of Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars on the 3DS.

It's been years, but after several good titles, if it has Atlus on the box, its going into my collection. Helps that at $50+, I get a CD with the games also.

Update on Star Wars Assualt Team: I've hit the "the only way to continue is to spend money wall". Most of the fun's gone out of it.

Picked up a few more games, again more iOS than anything else.

Doctor Who: Legacy - addictive, fun, and I can have K-9 on my team. Once I get enough crystals. One nice advantage over Star Wars Assualt Team(yes, I'm bitter about that one), you can go back and replay all the earlier levels to level up your characters if you hit a stumbling block, rather than having to spend money to buy characters.

HeroClix Elite - So today I wandered into Big Lots and mooched my way back to the toy section, hoping for new Transformers(struck out on that front), and saw on the peg a HeroClix set for The Dark Knight Rises. But what caught my eye was that is was for the iPad. And for $2.50 I got it, then downloaded the app. It's kind of like Skylanders, or at least what I've seen of Skylanders. You use the figures to unlock the characters, then send your characters through different missions. Since it was in a store that sells a lot of remaindered stuff, I'm guessing I shouldn't hold my breath for the Mechwarrior version........

On the PS3 front.....

Star Trek - I rented this game shortly after it came out, and while I enjoyed it(the co-op works a lot better than it did for The Eternity Clock), I didn't enjoy it enough to spend full retail for a copy. Then it vanished out of the local Gamestop. No new copies marked down, no used copies. Then one finally showed up. With no instruction manual. Ah, well. At least I know how to duck down behind cover now.

My son picked up Mario Kart 7 for the 3ds tonight as part of a reward for practicing his violin (we chipped in part, and he got to use his lawn mowing money for the rest). He's excited and says it's a great game. I'll probably have to try it out to make sure there's no objectionable material in it. ;)

The same store also had Pokemon White Version 2 on clearance for $17. He was considering that one, but when he went with Mario Kart, I sneaked over to pick it up to possibly use for his birthday. Again, as a Pokemon idiot, I'll ask someone who knows more than I ever would: Is it a decent game, and is it age appropriate for a 12 year old?

MORE IOS MANIA!!!!! And a little Nintendo eShop.

First, the iOS(I've been sticking with free games, mostly):

Dungeon Keeper - I've never played the original Dungeon Keeper for the PC, but I have played the sequel. The game puts you in the role of the bad guy, defending your dungeon against the wimpy good guys who want to stop your conquest. The PC game has a horribly warped sense of fun. The iOS version? It maintains that warped sense of humor, but...... sadly..... it's been developed as an iOS app, which means if you want to get anywhere quickly, you'd better be prepared to spend money. By the time I get the resources to go out and start smacking my opponents around, I'll have gotten bored and gone on to playing something else.

BloodMasque - Ah, SquareEnix. They make beautiful games, and this one is no exception. It's even got a great gimmick. You can take your picture and use it as the face of your character. It's fun to play, too. Well, it was. The good news, no micro transactions needed so far. The bad news, it's started crashing.

Six-Guns - If any company is going to make some kind of a major breakthrough in making full games(on the order of the Arkham series, for example) for the iOS, I'm betting it will be Gameloft. Of course, we have to hope they don't go completely micro transaction crazy first. One of the great things about this game is that it's completely free. And, most importantly, you don't have to pay a thing to beat the game. Forty missions for the storyline, lots of side missions(nothing too difficult that I found so far), and a game done in the style of Red Dead Redemption, with lots of supernatural critters thrown in. That being said, it's not easy. One of the early story missions ends with fighting a bear. Fortunately, you don't appear to have to do them in a specific order.

Tiny Death Star - the Emperor and Darth Vader, in a real world financial situation, lack the funds to build the Death Star. So they decide to build a tower(or rent out space in the completed section of the Death Star) to build apartments, cafés, etc to bring in money. It's free, it's odd, and it's a fun way to waste time.

And from the Nintendo eShop:

It's Mega-May time at the Nintendo eShop. Or at the Capcom website. Either way, the decision has been made to finally put more Mega Man games on to the eShop for the 3DS. And as great as this sounds, they're only going with Game Boy games. Which is good for me, because I haven't played most of them. The first game released is Mega Man XTREME, which is a GBC port of X1 and X2. Well, parts of X1 and X2.

Nothing new these days, but I have reverted back to playing Halo 4 online. It's still good fun, but the novelty is wearing off a bit - playing new game types keeps things fresh, but overall it's just kill or be killed. Been having a lot of fun playing Big Team Slayer lately, when I usually play Regicide or Rumble Pit.

I don't think there's a more fun thing to do than zip around in a Warthog running Spartans over and typically ending in a large crash or explosion!

Generally, my online gaming has been down to playing GTA Online. And after 68 levels, it's still fun. I'm not playing it as aggressively as I once was, but I think that's more down to my current neighborhood in-game.

The most expensive part of town is either dead quiet or I'm lucky to get out of my garage alive. On the up side, I'm no longer hearing people swearing at cashiers or singing in the shower any more. On the down side, if I get dropped into a super hostile server, my unfortunate tendency to mainly use the Saber Turbo means the psychotic 10 year olds can outrun me in their gaudy super cars and blow me up.

long time no post, been busy buying crap.

Finally got a PS4, along with inFAMOUS Second Son, Final Fantasy 14, Knack, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I downloaded Fez, Flower, and Octodad on PS4.

Plus all the PS plus stuffs.

I also picked up Titanfall and MGSV:GZ on Xbox One.

Traded in my Wii U, was tired of NEVER using it and I hate Mario Kart and Smash.

Got Mario Golf: World Tour for 3DS and I am addicted.

I also paid in full Wolfenstein The New Order and Watch_Dogs both for Xbox One and put $26 down on Destiny for PS4. It's gonna feel weird playing Bungie game on PS4...

Been playing a lot of COD:Ghosts Squads while listening to podcasts. It's easy to just zone out while doing it and it's the only way I can stand to play for more than a few matches without being bored to death.

I've also spent a large amount of time with my PS4. Mainly been playing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trying to platinum it. NOT going so well...

I did Platinum inFAMOUS Second Son though! :) I was part of the first 1% to actually do it! I gloated for at least 3 days till another one of my friends did it. lol It was only my 3rd platinum. Other two being on VITA (Walking Dead, Resistance: Burning Skies)

Also since they turned the HDCP off last week I wanted to make this little video to showcase all the BIG PS4 games. Hope you enjoy.

I recently got Assassin's Creed 3 and Warhammer 40k Space Marines on the 360. I'm a little underwhelmed by AC3 (everyone tells me I shoulda gone for Black Flag) but Space Marines is super fun. Picked them both up for just £9 to boot!

From new school.......

Brothers in Arms: Global Front - my first time playing any of the BiA series, and I was quite enjoying it.... Right up until the tank I was escorting ran me over. Still a lot of fun, though.

To the Old School.....

Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode - there's a small video store in town that opened about a year and a half ago, and while they rent and sell DVDs and BluRays, they also sell video games. Anything from the PS3/XBox 360 era back to the Atari 2600. I have no clue where he gets them, but he's got lots of games. He's also got the systems to go with them. So I wound up getting one of my favorite NES games - Golgo 13 - and as I no longer have a NES, I picked up a Generation Nex console, which will apparently play both NES cartridges and Famicom games. Guess this means I'm going to have to scour eBay for another NES Max controller. As well as copies of Mystery of Convoy and the Dirty Pair game. And Macross. And Lupin.

And if anybody wants a Nintendo TV(as a conversation piece, unwieldy paperweight, or just to play NES titles on), give me a shout. I know where you can find one.

More games and surprising limitations.

On the iOS front, I got what appears to be the only official release on the US App Store Lupin the Third game. I could understand if the game was in Japanese(it's from Tokyo Movie Shinsa, after all), but it's in Italian.

On the up side, if I walk it through Latin, sidestep it through Latvian, and throw it through Esperanto, I still can't understand it, as I don't speak those languages. But I can make some guesses. So far, you have to shoot bombs out of the air.

Wandering into the movie/old video game store, I picked up the second Golgo 13 game, The Mafat Conspiracy, and a game I'd never played before: The Hunt for Red October.

To sum it up, Red October blows goats. What could have been an interesting sub game, something stealthy and fun, is really, really bad.

As for Mafat Conspiracy, I had this game way back when it came out. I was looking forward to playing it again. Unfortunately, the Generation Nex, for all it's bonuses(wireless controllers, slim design, able to use original NES controllers), has an interesting drawback. Out of all of the NES games released, there's 2.35% or so of the titles it can't play because of the way it emulates the hardware. Among them is Castlevania III(not a big deal, I'd rather play it on the 3DS if they ever release it), and apparently Mafat Conspiracy. Pity, really.

The bigger pity being that Hunt for Red October works. Fortunately, the games are so cheap that it's more an annoyance than anything.

EDIT: Thanks to the company that built the Generation Nex(called Messiah) losing their web site, I had to go digging through the internet to try to find their list of games it won't play. I finally found a partial one because whoever had gotten it noticed a few games that sounded or looked funny. According to the list of games he'd tested, Mafat Conspiracy should work. So either the cartridge itself is fried, or his list is out of alignment, because the game above Mafat did the same thing that mine is doing.

I picked up Street Fighter X Tekken on clearance at Toys R Us for 6.00. I had been kind of eyeballing that one for a bit, and at six bucks I couldn't say no. And I'm very happy that the opening splash screen tells me how to actually say the title. :)

From Payne to pleasure.....

On the pleasure front, I managed to find another copy of Mafat Conspiracy, which works wonderfully.... and reminds me why I got stuck back in the 90's. I got lost in the labyrinth in Paris.

Other NES titles I picked up:

Silent Service - A great WWII sub simulator. If you play it in a small room and have a good imagination(or really good speakers) it's almost like being there.

Faxanadu - Another game I used to have way back when. It's kind of fun. It's also very annoying. I could see them taking half your gold when you die, but all of it? Really?

The Adventures of Bayou Billy - A friend of mine recommended this one, and while it looks like it might be kind of fun, I think there are parts when you need the Zapper, and from what I understand, flat screen TVs and Zappers don't get along so well.

To the Payne.

Specifically, Max Payne for iOS. Haven't really tried it out yet, but it looks fun so far.

Oh man I wish I could afford a WiiU, I love Mario Kart to pieces (Double Dash is my favourite, Mario Kart 64 my least).

I just read that Shigeru Miyamoto and others at Nintendo are hinting at a new Metroid Prime title for WiiU. How amazing would that be, especially considering how gorgeous the new Zelda is looking in its proper open-worldness.

Also Yoshi's Wooly World. I bought Kirby's Epic Yarn and hated it (ended up trading it in along with a few other titles in order to fund the purchase of Donkey Kong Country Returns), but this new title has an embellished Yoshi's Island/Story gameplay mechanic... and I love all of Yoshi's silly noises.

The WiiU really does have a solid set of games now eh? With more brilliance guaranteed in the next year. If only they would start packaging the WiiU with the new official battery that gives much extended life to the gamepad.
