I think there are a few European TF conventions that would be a lot easier for you to go to. Forget the names right now, but I'm sure some of the European board members know of them.

Well, there's OTFCC Europe, which will probably be in February ( I don't think a venue has been decided yet... a little bit of info @ http://transformers.proboards.com/index ... 83&start=0 )

Alternately, there's Transforce (on hiatus because its organiser is getting married, but you can get an idea from http://www.transforce.org.uk ) and AutoAssembly ( info @ http://www.autoassembly.org.uk/ )

Hope that helps. OTFCC Europe will probably share some toy exclusives with OTFCC USA, and may have some of its own. Transforce often has some fan exclusives (the TMUK continuity based on the G1/G1 comics is complicated but very rewarding), and AutoAssembly will probably do something in the way of a magazine.

The Good news for me is, I live in Las Vegas. So it's a three hour drive to and from. We'll still get a hotel room, but that sure as hell saves a load of cash. (has had to fly the two times he's gone)

Alright! Pasadena is in my nick of the woods, so I think I'll be able to attend my very first BotCon. :) Very cool news.
