Issue Review

I will destroy you if I must!
Unlike the ending to the Vector Prime arc, this is very unsatisfying. Many plot holes are left open, and the fight is pretty anti-climatic, what with Unicron just running away like a coward. Again this is better read as a whole, but it’s not that much better, trust me. And Skyfall and Landquake protecting the Energon from blowing and shit is a stupid plot point when really, there could be some other random plot device that they could use to transport the two. Schyte gets one moment of awesomeness, though. You wonder what’s the whole point of having the two dozen Mini-Cons if they’re not going to get any personality. The next arc, we’ll be following Skyfall and Landquake through the Classics Universe, which I’m not really happy with, since Landquake had all of three lines while Skyfall is a mopey mysterious guy. On the plus side, we’re leaving behind the mass of cardboard characters behind, which is a good thing. Too much is happening in this arc, which simply ruins any chance of a plot. Hopefully the next arc will be better.

Notes

Most of this issue takes place during the Cybertron cartoon episode Cybertron, but the epilogue takes place after the cartoon’s end (or near it). Soundwave would presumably escape, since after the episode ‘Cybertron’ he’ll appear in the show proper. Pretty convenient that in the cartoon none of the Cybertron cast mentions Alpha Trion or the outworlders, eh?

Note that Ramjet’s (the Mini-Con) dead body is still hanging off Unicron’s spikes.

Vector Prime’s death happened in the Cybertron episode ‘Guardian’.

Override mentions that Skyfall comes from Velocitron, and she’ll give him a hero’s memorial there.

The main cast of the Cybertron cartoon appear at the end, and Alpha Trion has been repaired. RID Optimus Prime and the Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime meet. This is the very first time that two Optimus Primes from different continuities meet with each other.

The Megatron that appear at the end is G1 Megatron in his Classics body. More on this next issue.

Goofs

It’s given that Over-Run is missplet Overrun, right?

What is supposed to be Primus’ lip is coloured white, as if it’s the inner cavity of his mouth. This makes him look like he’s grinning like an idiot.

Classics Megatron’s eyes should be green instead of red. Not because of toy accuracy, but because all subsequent issues has his eyes as green.

Also, Classics Megatron's wings are missing.
