Although he was once accused of being a bureaucratic blight on the Decepticon army, Astrotrain is an effective commander and an unequalled administrator. One of the few examples of a Decepticon rising up the ranks to a top posting through merit, he has won the respect of most of his faction's top officers. Despite his proficiency at command, the work tends to wear on Astrotrain and he has little patience for subordinates who fail to carry out his plans.

Character History

Old Continuity

(See Old Continuity)

Although most of his fellow Decepticons regarded him as little more than a walking escape route, Astrotrain was destined for greater things. While serving under Gigatron and Soundwave on Earth in the late 2010s, he proved himself an adept liaison between the Decepticons and their human allies. When Soundwave was injured and unable to lead his troops, Astrotrain assumed the mantle of Decepticon leader on Earth and city commander of Metrotitan. Even after Soundwave returned to active duty, he allowed the triple changer to remain in command.

After Metrotitan was recalled to Cybertron to deal with the threat of a revived Unicron and an army of Cybertronian Empire soldiers, Astrotrain and his followers acquitted themselves well. After the death of Galvatron in the battle, Astrotrain's position left him as the de facto second in command to Gigatron, the new Decepticon leader. His position was quickly challenged by Hatemonger, but the general quickly turned his attention away from Astrotrain and to his leader Gigatron.

Once Hatemonger had been defeated in a leadership duel by Gigatron and his dissent quieted, Astrotrain settled into a day-to-day administrative role, overseeing Decepticon operations while Gigatron handled the important issues of the day. He served in this capacity throughout Thunderwing's uprising, then oversaw the evacuation of Decepticon forces from Cybertron during the Quintesson invasion.

After reaching Earth, Astrotrain accepted a position as the Decepticons' admiral and began preparing for their return to Cybertron. His plans culminated in the creation of the Warworld, a massive mobile battle station capable of destroying a planet's surface or reducing a small moon to debris. He commanded the Warworld in combat and emerged victorious over the Quintesson navy, only to have the ship stolen under his nose by forces loyal to the Cybertronian Empire.

Amazingly not demoted after such a failure, he returned to his position as chief administrator for all the Decepticon forces on Cybertron. Once it was clear that Megatron had returned, Astrotrain joined forces with him. However, he is still in communication with Gigatron and seems to have his own agenda, which he is working on alongside Tracer, ostensibly in partnership with Soundwave.

Personal Relationships

Astrotrain is quite close with both of his fellow Decepticon triple changers. He considers both Octane and Blitzwing brothers, and is quick to turn to them when he needs someone he can trust. He often disagrees with their decisions and sometimes wonders just why he puts so much faith in them. Despite whatever misgivings he may have, it's clear that he'll give the two of them far more leeway than any other Decepticon under his command.

Although his early relationship with Ramjet was unfriendly at best, after the seeker was assigned as his bodyguard the two of them grew to like and respect one another.
