Sir Auros' review of: Spychanger Ultra Magnus

Ultra Magnus
Allegiance: Autobot
Function: Being a really cool mini version of Ultra Magnus?

The spychanger version of Ultra Magnus is a pretty darn spiffy toy and a whole lot easier to transform than the bigger version. I was able to pick him up on discount for about $2.25 at KayBee, and he's definitely worth it.

Alternative Mode

The alternate mode for Ultra Magnus is, as always, a car transport truck. It looks pretty good, with an Autobot symbol on either side and on the grill of the cab. The colors are accurate too. The only criticism I can think of for the vehicle mode is that the cab seems out of scale so that it kind of looks like an armored car or something from the front, but other than that, it's a solid vehicle mode and conversion from a bigger scale to a smaller one.

Robot Mode

The transformation from vehicle to robot is really easy (it is a spychanger after all), but the level of difficulty puts it on par with something as simple as breathing when compared to the bigger Ultra Magnus. Pull out the legs and arms and flip up the wings and you have his snazzy Robot Mode. Another accurate (as far as the scale allows) conversion in this mode, and it's just as solid as the vehicle mode. I would have liked to see some sort of weapon for him though.

Poseability
For a spychanger, Ultra Magnus is really quite poseable. He's nowhere near as poseable as his larger counterpart, but his arms rotate, his head rotates, and his legs are separate entities that can even move some. Compare that to the other spychangers who have solid car rears as legs.

Transformation:10 - Really very simple, and since it's a spychanger, I can't really take off for that.
Durability: 8 - He's pretty solid, but the arms wiggle too much. Other than that, it's a solid toy.
Price: 10 - Wow, even at the original retail price this toy is really worth it, but now you can probably find it marked down quite a bit, and I highly recommend it.
Overall: 9 - As far as spychangers go, Ultra Magnus is pretty solid. As far as Transformers go, he's just as solid. Hey, he's even better than some G1 molds. I highly recommend this toy. It's fun and it looks cool.
