StoneCold Skywarp's Review: Convoy

Allegiance: Cybertron
Function: Cybertron Leader
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"
Re-issue #0
Premiums: None

Alternate Mode: Ah, Convoy, whenever will you not disappoint? Alternate mode, as well you know, is a huge rig. Red cab, grey trailer. Painfully show accurate, great detailing. Hell, I know I'm rambling, but this is the one Autobot that every transfan has either owned, held, or seen. How much can you talk about a toy with that kind of appeal?

Robot Mode: Again, painfully show accurate. However, in the re-issues (maybe due to a damaged mold or whatever) things have changed cosmetically. The mouth plate has two etches on it either side. Don't know what purpose they serve though... I wouldn't have noticed it if the stickers on his shoulders weren't such a pain to place. The other change in the mold is to the hands. They're bigger, too big. Unfortunately they look totally out of proportion to the rest of the toy. Also Prime's classic rifle has been re-worked to fit the hand, and looks totally different from his weapon of old. The trailer's changed too. The spring-loaded launcher for Roller is now a lot stronger than before. I managed to launch him a good 14 inches!

Re-Issue extras: Prime comes in a whopping great box. The most interesting extra is the energy axe. Simply remove one of Prime's fists and place it in. It's kinda funky. Translucent orange and yellow. You also get a nice ring-binder to keep all the cards that come with the re-issues in. It's deep red with a Cybertron logo on the front. Contains seperating cards for Cybertrons, Destrons, Shows, Checklists...groovy as they come, shame I'll never use it cos I prefer having them in the boxes.

Transformation - 3. Not exactly the most taxing of transformations.
Durability - 8 Prime's always seemed pretty solid to me. The smoke stacks are the shorter version, so are less likely to snap and less likely jam in your eye should you trip and fall on Prime, in some freak roller-skate enduced accident.
Fun - 9 Prime's still pretty fun, but nothing compared to modern varients. Laser Rod Convoy springs to mind...
Price - 7. Moderately priced re-issue. Mine cost me £55 (GBP) inc. shipping...I've heard they go for a lot more though.
Overall - 8. At the end of the day, it's Convoy...there's always going to be a certain mysticism with the toy...
