Optimus_Type-R's review of: Ironhide

Name: Ironhide
Allegiance: Autobot
Function: Warrior/Kicker's babysitter
Sub-Group: NA
"If trouble doesn't find me, I'll find it!"

Ironhide is a young and reckless recruit. He is a good fighter but lacks the discipline and experience of his Autobot elders. Able to powerlinx with Jetfire, Ironhide can crunch Decepticon metal with the best of them. His powerful laser cannon is a feared weapon by his enemies. With a little guidance, he is sure to become seasoned warrior.

Vehicle Mode:
Ironhide's Alternate mode is some sort of off-road truck. With a huge spotlight assembly on the top. And a missile launcher. And his head, which doesn't do much for the whole robot in disguise deal. His colour scheme is many blue, red and gold, with some black and white pieces thrown in. The front windshield is painted gold so you can't see through it, but there are no windows on the doors so you can see into the cabin. There are two seats there and a steering wheel but it's not too detailed, it's still a nice touch. He also has molded on springs, gas cap door handles and two gas cans, again nice touches. He even has front and rear lights and a grill in the front. All of this is nice, now I get to the ugly part. The fact that you have this ugly red...thing... on the top of the truck is an insult to trucks everywhere. It has the huge light fixture attached to it and his guns, but the worst part comes from the fact that his head is right there, dead center. I know you can slightly pull his helmet down to cover his eyes, but come on it's still so obvious. I'm not expecting and alternator here but this is really bad. The good part is that you can take this piece off and it actually looks like a truck. The noises that he makes when you turn the light/head thing around, well I have no idea what it is supposed to be, maybe some sort of machine gun? At least the rocket launcher sounds something like it is supposed too, but this is one toy you can keep the batteries out of and not miss much.

Robot Mode:
Transformation is easy, simply flip the rear halves up and pull down the legs. Flip open the grill and lights for feet and bring the arms around. Oh and flip the helmet up if you have it covering his eyes (not that it makes a difference). Here is the better part of Ironhide. He retains the colour scheme from his alt mode, with a few additions, like some sliver highlighting on his torso and an Autobot symbol right in the center of his chest. His face is nicely detailed, with blue eyes and gold framing. It almost looks like Armada Hot Shot's face. I don't have much to complain about him here as he isn't all that bad. Not great, but not bad either. The only thing I have noticed is that if you're not careful and you don't raise those back halves enough, they can pop off when you bring the arms around. Both the missile launcher and the gun can be removed from their holders but due to the odd shape of the peg that they are in, I don't see how any Transformer with out movable hands can hold them. Ironhide also has a circle hole in the top of each wrist which can hold another weapon, but as he can hold them in his hands anyway.

Transformation:: 3 - very easy, you just have to watch those back halves.
Durability: 7 - aside from those halves, he seems pretty solid.
Fun: 8 - I've enjoyed him so far.
Price: 6 - same as all the other mega's but I don't really think he is worth the price of a mega mould.
Summary: 7 - he's not bad, but not great.
