Transformers Convention Exclusive Toys

Transformers: Convention Exclusive Toys

As the Transformers fandom grew and conventions became a thing, Hasbro started producing convention-exclusive toys and fiction that were only available through attending the official Transformers convention BotCon, with each year usually having a theme. Over time the amount of official toys released in every year’s Botcon increased as the OTFCC itself also expanded in both scope and scale, with Hasbro’s support growing as the convention itself did, repainted toys eventually blossoming to additional retools exclusive to these Botcon toys. The original conventions ran by 3H focused more on introducing new toys as it expanded on Beast Wars and Universe, though its successor, Fun Publications under the ‘Timeless’ banner, branched out with other series and generally attempted to follow a theme each year for a majority of their toys.

From Botcon 2005, under Fun Publications’ management, each Botcon will have a box set featuring around five to six toys. Several two-packs ‘souvenirs’ would be on sale at the Botcon event itself, usually featuring repaints of several of the new retooled toys from the box set, and a bonus free toy would be given to those who arrived in person to take their box set. From the 2006 Botcon onwards, a customization class allowing fans to build a brand-new toy would provide yet another exclusive toy. Finally, a different bonus free toy would be given to those who registered early, as well as several toys sold through their website In 2013 Hasbro/Fun Publications has made several toys exclusive to an online subscription service, around six a year.

Exclusive toys also began cropping up in other conventions such as San Diego Comic-Con or New York Comic-Con. Generally, thanks to the difficulty buying them and the limited number that these toys are produced in, convention exclusive toys are generally more expensive in the secondary market though this obviously varies from toy to toy. This list will primarily be focused on the toys released by Botcon/OTFCC divided by year, and other official convention exclusives will be listed in the bottom.
