How come they had Megatron in the "Uncron trilogy" become Galvatron and in the next series had him back as Megatron?

Why did they do this and why was the Japan version's done differently?
In-universe, it's basically the character's preference. Change look, change name.
Real-world, a lot of flip flopping about whether the series are intended to form a trilogy or act as standalones. Made more complicated by the US stuff being dubbed rather than the US writers leading on story. It's arguably more cohesive than some Japanese series and franchises being released for Western audiences with completely different stories being overlaid in the editing and dubbing. Generally still not very good, though.
