What are the chances of a Regeneration 2 series for the Transformers Generation 2 comic series and if not then why not?

The pitch for Regeneration that Hasbro signed off was based on not including Marvel US G2. It was Furman's alternative ending, through a lens of hindsight.

IDW are losing the Transformers licence AFAIK.

The closest thing to a Regen 2 likely to exist at this point is probably the Transforce unofficial convention story (Alignment) from years ago.

Could the Generation 2 stroyline be continued with the new publisher with a regeneration 2 series?

As with SG, yes since Hasbro have the rights. It'd have some audience interest (and as well as explaining what happened as a continuation they could eg get Kei to draw it, whose art is very much inspired by Yaniger and 2000AD) but still be quite niche and not have the recognition factor of doing something with characters more in the Sunbow style.

It's hard not to think that TF comics are a spent force by this point. Even if the IP is rested the original audience is shrinking and I'm not sure that younger members of the fandom want the same things or that a publisher would consider titles more specifically aimed at them.
