Soundwave held up his hand, encouraging the other Decepticons to follow Starscream's order.

They'd better start getting used to it, he thought dryly.

But -- like he did with all leaders -- Soundwave would always be there whispering advice in his new leader's audio sensor. And now was the time for the first of many pieces of advice.

"I know you have a flare for the dramatic," he told the seeker, sotto voce, as he sidled up to him, "but now isn't the time. Finish this, it before it recovers. You don't know what upgrades the Quintessons might have given it's regenerative systems."

Of course, that wasn't Soundwave's real concern. He was really worried that some idiot like Ramjet would get impatient and ruin his carefully-scripted succession plan by stealing Starscream's thunder and killing the imposter himself.

Starscream let his arms fall and listened to Soundwave's murmur. The communications officer was right, of course, but Starscream did not need any reminder - thank you...

Hm, he knew Soundwave cherished his role as advisor to leaders and no doubt intended to carry on with it when the rule changed hands (as he had - and it had - before). He bitterly recalled an Earth-based feud between them, recognising that Soundwave had his measure. Perhaps. Still, a king did need a jester.

"Of course," he said quietly.

He sneered down at the fiery ruin of the Megatron clone which was still, even now, trying to claw its way towards him. It would be euthanasia, of a kind.

"How it pains me to do this," he stated, his deeper vocals carrying the old tones of mockery. He stepped forwards, half-turned and brought his right foot down firmly on the wreck's neck, pinning it, and fired a null ray at virtually point-blank into the head.

How's that for drama?

Megatron lurched as Starscream fired on him, then lay still. Soundwave aimed his scanners at the imposter to make sure that he'd been finished, but he needn't have bothered. Megatron's battered, melted body turned a flat, uniform grey as they watched, clearly signalling his death to anyone with optics to see.

Without missing a beat, Soundwave stepped forward, saluted and raised his voice.

"Hail Starscream, Decepticon Commander Supreme! We function for you and you alone!"

One by one, Ramjet, Scrapper, Buzzsaw and many of their comrades caught on and did the same.

Scavenger transformed and saluted.

"Hail Starscream."
