Auto Assembly 2008 UPDATE: Dan "Bumblebee" Gilvezan Attending.

Post by inflatable dalek »

After a years break the main (well, only really at the moment) UK Convention is back for next August, and the initial guest line up has been announced:
http://www.autoassembly.org.uk/

Hi everyone,

Yes, after a year's break, we're finally back in action and we're
running another Auto Assembly convention!! We've confirmed the date for
Saturday 2nd August 2008 and once again we'll be back at the Clarendon
Suites right here in Birmingham, England. After taking a much needed year
off to recharge our batteries, we're hoping to bring you the biggest and
best Auto Assembly convention EVER with loads of activities, and what
could well be our biggest guest line-up to-date...

This time we're running the event to raise funds for Help A Local Child
(formerly known as Cash For Kids) - a local children's charity founded
by BRMB radio station - through a charity auction and raffle and any
excess funds left over from the convention.

Help a Local Child was launched in 1994 with a commitment to helping
the children and young people of the West Midlands, who experience the
negative effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence,
crime, illness and disability. There are many children in and around the
Birmingham area who are carers for their own parents or who are indirect
victims of domestic violence or suffer daily pain due to illness. In
this world of glamour and gain, these are the children that BRMB want to
help. Their focus is local fundraising, with all money raised being
awarded locally and really benefiting our community. With the help and
support of their listeners, local celebrities, corporate partners,
volunteers, and their employees, the fundraising year on year will help more
and more children in the area, enabling them to achieve dreams and
ambitions they would never have thought possible.

Back to the convention and we're going to be having the usual mix of
activities - plenty of dealers, video screenings, a bar or two(!), toy
and art displays, competitions and guest talks. We're hoping to have our
usual mix of UK comic guests including all of our "regulars", another
voice actor (who we will announce as soon as possible) but this time -
as we said earlier - we want to have the biggest guest line-up ever at a
British Transformers convention!

Even though we only confirmed the venue last week and announced Auto
Assembly 2008 a week ago, we've already confirmed no fewer that SEVEN
guests for next year. Joining us once again are regulars Simon Furman,
Andrew Wildman, Simon Williams and Geoff Senior, and making their debut
are artists Staz Johnson, and Lew Stringer, and colourist Liam Shalloo!!
Not Satisfied with those? Well we're still waiting to hear from a LOT
more including a Transformers actor to be our guest of honour so watch
this space!

Ticket prices are £16 for adults and £8 for concessions (children,
students and OAPs) and once again we'll be producing another issue of our
fanzine, The Cybertronian Times, and giving you all another one of our
infamous "goodie bags" with plenty of great free gifts including two
more convention exclusive postcards, and much more!

In 2005 Auto Assembly was the biggest ever held in Europe with 409 fans
attending and last year we had 400 attendees and we are confident that
we're going to smash the European record next year. Every year we have
a fantastic amount of interest for the convention with fans booking up
from across Europe and as far afield as Australia and America and
people have already started booking their places so hurry NOW and book
online or download the booking form from the website to guarantee your
place!

Anyway, we hope to see many of you there next year and feel free to get
in touch if you want to know more! The website is being updated daily
with more news and information and if you have any questions, feel free
to email us or post them on the forum!

It hasn't gone up on the main site yet at the time of writing, but I just got an email confirming the guest of honour will be a G2 voice actor:
It's taken us a while, but we're pleased to announce that we can finally confirm our guest of honour for Auto Assembly 2008, the annual European Transformers convention taking place on 2nd August in Birmingham, England! For the first time ever, we are going to be joined by a G1 voice actor - none other than the voice of Bumblebee, Dan Gilvezan!

As well as Bumblebee, Dan has voiced a number of other G1 characters including Hot Spot, Snapdragon, Outback, Rollbar and Skids. And for all you Marvel comics fans out there Dan also voiced a certain friendly neighbourhood superhero - starring as Spiderman in the 1980s animated series, Spiderman And His Amazing Friends alongside fellow G1 actor Frank Welker! Dan will be with us for the duration of the convention, meeting fans and signing autographs in the guest area and be on stage for a talk / Q&A session later in the day.

We are pleased to have Dan joining us and hope you'll all make him feel welcome. With less than 3 months to go before Auto Assembly 2008, there's no better time to book your tickets to make sure you have a chance to attend what is sure to be Europe's biggest ever Transformers convention!

With Dan making a personal appearance, the interview with Mark Ryan (Bumblebee in the live action movie) in Issue 9 of The Cybertronian Times we have a double Bumblebee special, the usual mix of dealers, displays, videos, guest talks (including a great comic guest line-up), we're sure you'll have a great day!

Hope to see many of you there!

He's not the first G1 voice actor to do a UK event (Alan Oppenheimer has done a London Expo, as has Lenny Nimoy) but I think he may well be the first one at a specific transformers event.

And he played Outback! I'll have to get him to sign Spotlight: Kup...

Ah yes... the day after, apparently...

If people're gonna bump threads after half a year, it'd be an idea to update the top posts.

I rely on the intelligence of the average poster here to work out the dates.

Only if you're a bloody good/bad shot and managed to hit me in the back with a dart gun. Hopefully the ol' healing factor will kick in soon.
