Hey, who wants to buy a lake house and turn it into a commune?
Hey, who wants to buy a lake house and turn it into a commune?
It’d be cool! We’d have a place we could all vacation at, maybe with a nice beach, near some potable freshwater so it’s a useful retreat for when the apocalypse comes.
We’ve all got to contribute though, so LEARN A SKILL. See, I can sew, cook, fish, care for some forms of livestock and forage and I know how to butcher and prepare game and hides, and I’m willing to learn how to hunt. But I can’t garden for shit (I’ve tried ) or fix things so somebody better step up.
No weirdos.

I can also cook and do gardening - I'm not super green fingered, but like having a go (helps to start with stuff that'll pretty much grow no matter what like potatoes). Quite willing to have a go at fixing/ building things (I love flatpacks, so chopping/ sawing wood and building stuff would be cool).

I can garden, build, etc, and deal with basic plumbing/electrics, but it's not exactly a vocation.
The problem with more parts of the planet becoming uninhabitable, dangerous wet bulb temperatures, etc, is going to be the mass exoduses.

Fun fact, there are limits to this. I thought I had a deep enough container- nope!
That's why I said no weirdos. Foolproof!Denyer wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 5:41 pm What could go wrong? -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y02WPJGZK8
You're both on my apocalypse team. Er, vacation home timeshare list thing. Yes.
Don't worry about the mass exoduses, we'll probably be dead by then.

Not sure a lake house will guarantee our survival unless there’s an underground complex of James Bond villain type beneath it, but I’m in.
I can garden, upcycle stuffs and organise (although not in the Marie Condo style; that’s too OCD). And you can all benefit from my old person wisdom hem-hem.

I would very much like the underground James Bond villain complex. I'm in.

...might be moving to the lakehouse sooner than expected, given we're in an energy pickle over here right now.

The sort of pickle only a pandemic, a huge shift in consumer behaviour, furloughing staff, Brexit (to an extent) and a skills shortage can cause.
I don't know what it's like elsewhere in the world, but we find ourselves grappling with an acute shortage of lorry drivers to get stuff from a to b. A bit like the NHS doesn't have a nurses and doctors, but no one really does anything about that, because it doesn't involve the movement of goods. What a country.
Oh and we also have problems with energy; we've a shortage of gas (like mainland Europe, we're reliant on a really big pipe from Russia which pumps the stuff over to us. As well as from Norway and that, which is affecting energy prices as it costs gas/electric companies more to buy the fuel they need. A few have already gone out of business.

Yeah, we're running into a similar problem over here. Not enough drivers are driving gas prices up, food prices, all the prices.
A commune is sounding better and better........

Right?
We need someone who can build a big fence. Anyone know any comically large lumberjacks?

It's because you're from Winterpeg and I'm afraid you're gonna shank me. Or bring the snow with you.
To be fair however, I moved to another country with a random dude from the internet after only technically meeting him twice. Going in on a timeshare with someone from the 'Peg wouldn't be the riskiest thing I've done. You're in! \o/
This morning Hound was like "No one's posted at the Archive in two days!" and I said "I'll post!"... the noise he made can only be described as a "Ehhhhh..."

... Although if there were two of me I could talk to myself and be endlessly entertained and feel understood.
Or be super annoyed. As that's usually how those types of things go.

Super annoyed is the more likely, just sayin'...

Considering the sibling I've been told I'm most like (I still say it's bullshit) is the one I have had the most arguments with, you're probably correct.
(Not alike. Not. We're both stubborn af, that's it.)
