Seriously though, apparently Unit-05 is an actual Unit in the Rebuild movies with an actual pilot. Not just a mass produced Unit.

Technically, it was '97 too.

Bear in mind that, originally, 05 and 06 were going to be continuations of the Production Line, but were scrapped. So it could just as easily be the original EVA 05, not one of the dummy-plugged Mass Production versions.

The blue one is Unit-00 (fans sometimes call it 00' to specify), fitted with new armor after the battle with Ramiel. Note however that, as we see in the trailer for Rebuild 2.0, Unit-00 apparently does not take on a new color of armor after said battle.

Unit-04 was never actually shown in the original series. Bandai made a Unit-04 model kit as a repaint of Unit-03 in silver, and everyone else went along with that.

What Unit-04 will look like in Rebuild, if it is even shown, we do not know yet.

I like the look of the new Unit-05 as a mecha, but not as an EVA.

That's Unit-03 and I consider it a lot more black than it is blue...but depending the lighting and stuff, different colors and shades are at times apparent.

There is a Revoltech figure of it and apparently a new one coming out soon, that is rumored to be some kind of exclusive.

Unit-03 will be appearing in Rebuild 2.0, with minor deco modifications.

I really like it so far, and can't wait to see a full body shot of 06.

Of all the "new" ones, my favourite is the 02 redesign. Nevertheless, it'll be a few years until I get to watch the new movies, so until that point I'm all for reading about them and that's how I'll find out more about the new 05.

Same here. The dark, passing toes-to-head view of it in the trailer at the end of Rebuild 1.0 will not suffice!

I would add something to the discussion but there's really nothing to mention other than 05 disappering along with a branch of NERV, and it being the white twin of unit-04.

While being on subject of NGE: Does anyone know if they will be bringing in a Mana Kirishima type character in to the movies, perhaps a romantic interest for Shinji?

You added a number on both the units you mentionned. Unit 04 dissapeared with the US branch of NERV, and it was a silver look-alike of unit 03...
