I actually like what they've done with the individual team members (although Ghost Starscream is a little crap). On their own they could tempt me. However, as an actual combiner team they seem more than a little random, and that does put me off. I just don't see why everything has to combine of a sudden, and it's harming figures like Cyclonus.

Oh wait... It's because the line is called 'Combiner Wars' or 'Unite Warriors' isn't it? And I think there's some fiction to go with it in IDW comics? Having read this, though, I don't understand why everyone can combine now...

New sale thread added with a range of Transformers including Masterpiece, Botcon, CHUG, RID, Movies etc.

Looking for MP-11T Thundercracker and MP-9 Rodimus v2 (Takara version with as few QC issues as possible).

Check out my new sale thread now!

Also items on eBay.

See, I totally get having a subline called Combiner Wars where everybody combines. It's a gimmick thing, that's cool. Fine, whatever works.

What I don't get is stuff like Megatron, Ultra Magnus and Starscream which are under the Combiner Wars banner but don't combine. I mean why aren't they just Generations or whatever?

Well consider all the non-Scramble City toys sold under the "Scramble City" line back in the day...

I know the Wiki isn't always the best citation, but apparently just the combiners, the cities and the city commanders.

So by "all" I'm guessing you mean "both"?

My best guess is that it simplifies ordering in stores' systems. At the moment, everything in Generations is sub-branded as Combiner Wars because that's what most of the toys are. I think only the Leader class figures are wholly independent of it, whereas the legends figures are half and half, roughly.

If I remember right, the first group of Generations ran simultaneously with Reveal the Shield, which was basically the same thing, and resulted in the latter line's mostly skipping of the last wave in physical stores. Having everything at the moment just be "Combiner Wars" probably helps prevent that.

Works for me.

Just thought "why's there stuff that doesn't" a more valid question than "why does it all combine", given what the line's called.

So... the combiner head isn't just part of the Cyclonus toy, but instead Galvatron is really living in his tummy?

Awesome.

Random plot point continuity porn, Unicron, alternate universes, toy features being made into storyline devices... it's definitely one of the most JTF things ever.

Gonna have to wait until I see the finished product, because as it stands the BW Returns version does me just fine.

Yeah, that looks very close to the original. Of course, part of the point behind Masterpiece (or Generations, or...) is creating a physical representation of a character whose previous appearances in media and toys are pretty divergent from one another. That's not really the case for stuff from Beast Wars and onward.
