Galvatron II - WIP

Post by hXcpunk23 »

(not to be confused with the old Marvel Comics Galvatron II)

I've been working on this since taking some time off from Bruticus. Had a lot of shit go down (loss of a loved one) and I decided to crank something out that I've had on my mind for quite a while now. So this has become my grounding bash--something to keep me sane and keep me going with everything going on lately. I'll try to share more WIP shots soon, but I wanted to give you guys a few head shots.

I took a Universe Springer figure and basically cut out all helicopter parts (cut the cockpit from his legs, removed the blades, and removed the winch). I shaved down some of the original Springer head and built onto it with some thin styrene sheet and strips. I also cut a chunk of the tail of the copter, then cut parts of it to attach to it to the rear end of the bot (this will be the tripod base for the cannon/alt mode). I took a Classics Megatron 2-pack tank and cut the tread sections from the chest and legs, glued them together, and added them to the backside of the forearms. I also cut the hip side panels off and glued them onto the actual hip so that the upper torso swivels without the need to lift them up and down. And last, I cut the knee sections off so that you can see the actual knees and joints--I'm building up on the lower legs to be more like Galvatron (rounded bits, with lots of detail).

This is still a huge WIP, but I'm working on the legs tonight some and the chest will come soon. When I'm done, this will be my interpretation of a Classics/Universe styled Galvatron (updated and more in scale with Classics Prime and Megatron). This will hopefully look nothing like a Universe Springer when completed (even now, he looks pretty different).

I'm still looking for a G1 Galvatron cannon and arm mount, but for now, I think I'm swiping the one I built and worked on for my previous Galvatron figure (I can always go back and do another one for him). I'll show more on this soon--just letting some glue dry tonight now.

Here are some early head shots (I'd say I'm roughly 95% done with it, just need to sand some areas a bit).

*Update Below*

I did a bit more to the legs last night and earlier tonight, but then called it quits until tomorrow night. I'm hoping to finish off the legs and go for the chest tomorrow sometime (if I have the time--gotta help do some paperwork for all the bills/funeral stuff).

I'll try to get a few shots of the alt mode tomorrow also--I think you guys will dig it--it screams Galvatron, but updated and kinda more "techy".

And yes, the images you're about to see have old medication bottles cut and fixed onto the legs.....I think it adds a nice touch to the whole "crazy" bit from G1. lol (seriously though, they were the perfect size and fit just how I wanted them). Also, the couple of black and white shots are there so you can get a feel for the build so far, without all the green and orange shining at you. Before I forget, the underside of the tank treads will probably be filled with some putty and I'll try to sculpt some of the treads back onto it to help fill in the gaps. Honestly, it's not top priority since it will be sitting on the ground in alt mode and in bot mode, you really don't see it (unless you're staring at his ass).

New WIP shots........I cut down the shoulders from an Energon Sharkticon to form the shape of Galvatron's shoulder pods (or whatever you call 'em). I then covered all but the outsides with thin sheet styrene and sanded it down around the edges. I glued those in place and cut small pieces to add to the top (for more texture and to look more like some of the G1 Galvatron art out there). These are locked in place and do not move during transformation. I also added some thin styrene sheet strips to the top of the lower legs and added some minor detail to the shins. I plan to do more styrene work on the legs. I added a small Neo Shifters connector to the upper back in bot mode. This piece flips down in alt mode and has a peg that Galvatron's arm cannon pegs right into. I tore apart my previous Galvatron custom cannon (which was the original G1 barrel, the back end of a large ink pen and lots of styrene). I and in the process of building it better, which is why it looks a little naked here. The tripod "tail" underneath the alt mode will also get a bit of work done to it. I'm planning to build up on it a bit with some styrene (and putty, if needed). The crosshairs-type piece that is sticking up on top of the alt mode, slides up and folds down in bot mode to reveal the head. I cut grooves into the inner part of the shoulder pods to allow the head to slide in and out of the chest cavity.

I'll hopefully have more updates on this soon. I'm hoping to work a bit more on it later tonight. For now, I'm out (need some sleep).

Thanks, man!

Here are the latest WIP shots. The chest is mostly complete, just needs some minor sanding in areas. Next, I'm planning to build a belt from styrene to go around his waist near the upper rectangular piece. I also plan to bulk up the sides a bit like you see in some of the artwork and on the G1 toon, then build the hip pieces to go over the old fake helicopter wheels. After that, it's on to the knees, which will be built from styrene and love. lol

Here are some more WIP shots. I built up the sides of the chest/ab area to look more like G1 Galvatron and I also built his "belt" around his waist and added some minor details with thin sheet styrene. I used the G1 Galvatron cannon mount to help build Galvatron's cannon (thanks to bellboy for shooting it to me--I'll get yours in the mail this coming week bro, thanks for being patient!). I cut part of the cannon mount and added some styrene to cover the gaps and openings. I kept most of the original cannon together that I had previously built. I did take the old styrene off and rebuild with thin sheet styrene between the actual cannon and ink pen part (the rear of the cannon). I added a fin to the back end of the cannon by cutting the shape from 3 pieces of thin styrene, gluing them together, then attaching it to the cannon. I still haven't figured out how I want it to connect to the forearm (yes, this cannon will be forearm only--as opposed to the old G1 toy, which had it on the upper arm/bicep area).

I'll post more updates when I get more done (took a break for a few days to work on Megatron's head and some early Soundwave and Blaster stuff).
