First Kitbash
OK so I've decided to get into the kitbashing scene. I do Star Wars minis customs so this is just a next step for me. But really what's motivating it is deluxe Wreckage. While he is nice, he is just too small! I recently got the Ultra class Onslaught and when comparing him to leader Brawl, which is close to the size of a tank compared to the deluxes, it looks close enough. So I wanna take my Onslaught and convert him to Wreckage. If that goes well, I wanna do a bigger Blackout, cause I am just not happy with his size at all.
Has anyone done this kitbash before? Any suggestions from the more experienced? I don't really know where to start with such an extensive rework and it is my first one.

Then, in that case, you would need o calculate the scales and then find a modelkit or something like it for the thing, and because you're probably talking about movie Wreckage, you need to do ,mods to the transformation as well, in order for it to look more movie-ish....
Why don't you just take a look at http://www.procustomizers.com?

I'm sorry Treadshot but I saw how many people were viewing and no replies at all? I mean not even a link to check out or another site that might be able to help. (exhales) I apologize.
As for my idea. Yes I want to take Ultra class Onslaught and turn him into Wreckage. The transformation itself isn't as big a deal to me as a resembling robot mode. I like how Onslaught transforms better than Wreckage. Wrecakge's transformation seems awkward and loose to me. Every time I move his arms, his whole torso rotates. His head doesn't move very much, the blades are nice but not built-in. I'm a big fan of built-in weapons that tuck away in vehicle mode.
So I guess I want to change the head to Wreckage's but the right size, put it on a ball joint. Attach blades to the arms and make it so they can fold away or something for vehicle mode. Take Onsalught's turret off and repaint the vehicle. Not sure what else is needed.
Why would I need a model kit of the vehicle? Could I use parts from that? And I will be checking out that link when I have a little more time.

Still not sure on what you're aiming for... do you mean to just repaint Onslaught in white, while changing the head and adding blades to the arms and some other little stuff? That'd be a bit of a handful, but certainly doable.
Before you go hacking Onslaught up, you'll want to find a replacement head that will work. Wreckage looks a fair bit like Megatron, so you may want to look at Megatron toys for a starting place.

Okay, i think i've got this: You want to make a Wreckage from Onslaught, using a Head Swap and removing the turret from the vehicle. Okay.
Sorry, most of us thought you meant a reshell (i.e. taking a scale model of a vehicle, and superimposing it onto the existing transfomer), which would be a lot harder. You need the model kit fro that because you'd be practically replacing the whole vehicle mode.
I'd personally go with Clay's or Pun-3X's suggestions, as it would be a lot easier, but if you really, really want, it is possible to find someone who could Hydrospan the existing Wreckage head for you (Mind you, it would be tedious, so it could cost a few bucks or more). Hydrospan is a product that will expand in water (hence the name), so someone simply has to cast the head, expand it, and recast it to a bigger size.
Blades? I'd keep the original Wreckage blades for convenience's sake, and actually hide them in the turret of the Onslaught toy (hollow it out, gut the electronics, cut off the barrels). That way they store in vehicle mode.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about Treadshot. See when it comes to SW minis I know the resources and technique. With this stuff, I'm just starting out so I know I'm going to have to experiment with technique and ask lots of dumb questions about resources.
I liked Clay's suggestion of the Megatron head though I might carve some off and use some green stuff to help make it unique. Although I do like Wreckage's head so if that doesn't work out right, I'm gonna look for someone to make that head bigger.
As for blades, those definitely gotta be bigger. Wreckage's blades on Onslaught's arms look more like knives than swords lol.
I mean I am seriously disappointed with how they did Wreckage. I guess I was expecting too much from a deluxe class figure.
Well This weekend I've decided to start my project. I haven't done anything yet because I wanted to make sure I had a good grasp on what needed to be done and I think I have enough to start.
BTW, Where do you guys get the little screws and springs and pins to hinge and hold them together? I'm gonna try and have the blades be spring-loaded on the sides of the arms.
