It's an error of some sort. I can't imagine starting from the drawing board with the intention of giving him hands like that.

If I can speculate wildly and irresponsibly, they probably had to beef up his wrists for safety reasons of some kind.

That's what I was saying. Safety reasons, not aesthetic. I rather have something functional over something that looks pretty.
