No Simon Furman.

Post by inflatable dalek »

1984, and before even penning his first "It never ends!" Furman is mauled to death by a rabid Will Simpson. The TF comic world never knows it's biggest (only) star. What do you think would have happened next and what differences (if any) do you'd think there'd be in the comic side of things today?

The UK comic as a series of slightly eccentric UK based tales by Parkhouse and Ridgeway? The US comic ending three issues after Uncle Bob left because the only person who wanted to do it was a illiterate bog troll? All Hail Megatron three years early (shudder)?

Lew Stringer steps into the breech

The UK comic features stories mainly based in the UK with the Decepticons taking over the Isle of Wight as there main base.

An idea that Stringer has Combat Colin is developed and becomes leader of the UK government armed forces reigned against the transformers. He eventually becomes allied with the Autobots who ar based in an abandoned coal mine in Yorkshire.

Gears has a Yorkshire accent and acts as liasion between the US and UK based autobot forces. Blaster sounds like Tony Blackburn.

Several UK specific orignal characters such as Routemaster, Bore a Decepticon Black Cab and Half Pint a micromaster milk float.

The tone becomes darker after Semi automatic Steve sacrifices himself to save sellafield from Shrapnels sabotage

There is a transformers action force crossover with action force characters being lead by Major "Combat" Colin

Frank Miller, fresh from Daredevil: Born Again, would decide against undertaking this "Dark Knight Returns" project he was offered, and take up writing duties on a TF comic. The Autobots defend Hell City from the Decepticons, who shoot themselves up with Energon-heroin and eat babies. The Autobots use deadly force and Arcee gets frequently smacked around for talking when the menbots are discussing things. Optimus Prime says things like "I'm the Goddamn Prime. Eat that, lawman."

Batman never undergoes his dark renaissance and all of his movies from 1989 onward feature the Adam West costume and lots of "Smack! Pow!" explosions. Batman sucks and the Transformers movies are rated R. The end.

Dreamwave, required some credibility following its G1 series begins Transformers: War Within written by the returning Frank miller. Highlights include Orion Pax receiving the Matrix and exclaiming that he is 'the goddamn Prime' and Prime informing the Autobots that they must leave Cybertron because he is 'the goddamn Prime.'

6 years later fans await issue 4...

Six years later? More like six decades.
Although a poster was incorrect about Arcee getting smacked around. If Frank Miller wa writing it she would be either A: A serial killing ninja B: A hooker or C: Both.
I still function!

Peter David steps in and sends the TF universe on the wildest ride its ever been on for 6 years...only to have Rob Liefield step in and undoes every good thing David has done on the book he adds mechanical muscles and shoulder pads to every character some characters like Bumblebee seems 50 stories tall in one panel while Prime is knee high to Bumblebee. In 3 issues of his scheduled 12 issue arc.., issue 4 of his arc is 6 months late when the book does come out it makes little sense because it's ghostwritten by someone else who is trying to make sense of Robs sketchy outline for the issue that reads 'Prime gets big ****ing gun issue.'.

The book gets cancelled and Rob complains for years that they put restraints on his creativity.

Chris Claremont steps in to fill the void that would have been filled by Furman. The end results are pretty much the same.

Great topic :D

Jeph Loeb steps in and we have a 12 issue ark where Optimus Prime has to investigate semingly random killings of previously never scene autobots without toys with one dying every issue. Optimus Prime ponders to himself constantly while he encounters a different major guest decepticon who all have some mysterious link to the mystery at hand yet they all deny they have knowledge or have no idea but strike lost of mysterious poses in dark panels and act in completely suspicious but nonsense ways taht keep the reader thinking maybe.....

By the 11th issue SKywarp is revealed to be the mysterious killer behind it all it a revealing last panel. BUT NO in the 12th and FINAL ISSUE he was manipulated all along by SHOCKWAVE who was using extremely convoluted methods to destroy Prime because a big cannon pointed at Primes head when he isn't looking clearly isn't logical enough.

Shockwave should be caught and killed by Megatron for the decepticons who were somehow also killing in this master plan to bets all master plans BUT Skywarp takes the fall because he just wanted to prove to Optimus Prime he was worthy of Megatrons attention all along.

I'm not sure about story lines, but given the tone of the above it might be a safe bet that new artist redraws all the references: the result is that Optimus Prime always has 'boobs' due to distorted perspective.

After 3 years of runs someone finally decides: "What the Hell!" and issues a series of stories where they allude to and finally reveal a "dark secret" ... Optimus is really Optima who used decorative body-paneling to break through Cybertron's glass ceiling.

A NOW spokeswoman applauds the bold move.

Comic sales plummet as stock prices for a barf-bag manufacturer temporarily soar.

In an effort to save the franchise, a new line of "Barbie Transformers" are announced. Aforementioned stock splits — twice.

A different NOW spokeswoman expresses their disapproval.

Marvel reveals that the whole thing was a dream sequence induced by cybertronium-cyanide-silicate laced energon drink that Bumblebee had consumed.

What is wrong with the comic industry? How can they compete with video games if they start doing really bad stuff?Transformers is their best line and so was G.I Joe?
A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the wisest of decepticons.
