But if u remember after Starscream's Brigade, Starscream was the only one left standing on the asteroid that was still online. and all the combaticons were offline. so actually it could be assumed that they are were left without energy. also it can be assumed that once Starscream and the combaticons were defeated Megatron and his decepticons retreaved the energy absorbers from the fallen Combaticon and returned them to the seekers while keeping the extra two.

Yeah sooner or later one of them would have got one. I guess for the short term two of them shared to get by(ignore the recharging scene for that to work).

most of the G1 cartoon is assumtion of what events occur that are not explained about. like how some characters appeared, dissapeared, or how new conflicts arose or ended. in this situation assumtion is needed to concur what happens....
It could also be assumed that a giant intergalactic gang of scallies descended on the Earth and stole them all. Or that they were eaten by rampaging insecticons. Or that they were nicked by the Junkions and turned into fridge-freezers. Assumption is a dangerous thing.

Surely the biggest bonehead move is Optimus puting Ultra Magnus in charge while he runs of to Nebulos. Did no one tell him what happened last time Magnus was in charge?, I mean is it any wonder the Autobots are utterly defeated before Prime bothers to saunter back?
