BotCon comic preview! [April Fool's, it's good!]

Post by Nevermore »

Wow. This looks amazingly GOOD. A general tongue-in-cheek approach, loads of over-the-top-ness, crazy cameos out of the left field, deliberate use of furmanisms... And then there's that "Marvel G2" art style. Could be the first FP comic actually done RIGHT.

EDIT: If this turns out to be an April Fool's joke, I'd be severely pissed because it's actually GOOD and a more "traditional" FP-esque approach to the comic would turn out just as lame as their previous comic offerings.

Yeah, I like the art. Dialogue's a little too OTT.

If there's a direct market version, I'll most likely pick it up.

edit: How would club/con fiction ever be distinguishable from an April Fool?

Dialogue switch'd be my bet. Unless the plan is just "rip off WWFF". It is funny, for about three frames, which is the main reason I think the words aren't pukka - tongue in cheek or not, there's surely no way they'd stretch simple jokes ("Grimlock is English") out for 20-odd pages. You can imagine more mundane dialogue popping in there quite easily - the art is good, not funny.

It is an April Fool's joke.

So basically, the joke is "Hey, this year's comic will actually be GOOD! - HA HA, fooled ya! You didn't actually expect our comics to be any less than dull and mediocre, did you?"

That is, without a shadow of doubt, the best piece of someone setting themselves up for a fall I've ever seen. What a gift to the critics if when the actual comic turns out to be awful...

Big shame the G2-influenced art is part of it. Instead, we've got the same ol' soulless stuff from:love:Don:love:coming. Because he's bound to put in a good show for a fan club comic when he probably gets other work. Actually...

M Sipher (story) and Trent Troop (art) just admitted that they never expected anyone outside the #wiigii! channel to actually LIKE this...

Make them do a full comic, use your connections! I'd buy a copy.

EDIT: Troop should definitely get a go ahead of some of the hacks working for IDW (Milne, for instance). I've never seen much of his art aside from thsoe years-old ones of the G2 leaders.

The con comic's going to be as inconsequential and packed with po-faced 'epic peril' and bit-characters as usual this year then?

Shame.

Second TT's art here as something I'd like to see on IDW interiors.

edit: Apparently the art's Sipher, colouring's TT.

Well, considering I never bother with the convention comics much anyway I'm glad to make do with this (there's a Mosaic idea in there somewhere though).

Does this mean that I don't want to try to read the '05 comic? The descriptions looked interesting, and I do like Dan Khanna's work. And an axe-wielding Ironhide is just plain cool.....

And it is nice seeing the G2 style again, even if it is just for a joke. Maybe IDW could hire Yanniger for one of the arcs?(he said, hopefully)
As a professional tanuki (I'm a Japanese mythological animal, and a good luck charm), I have an alarm clock built into me somewhere. I also look like a stuffed animal. And you thought your life was tough......

Well things may have changed since the last Q&A thread with Ryall, but he mentioned that they had had contacted Derek Yaniger, Jeff Anderson, Manny Galan and Herb Trimpe -- those who replied weren't interested.

Only thing better would be if there was a Decepticon wearing a top hat. That would be awesome.

Uh marty, that's sorta the point I was trying to make -- an homage to Tux.

Yeah I thought so.
I put the link for those not aware of the genius of a posh tophat wearing robot.
So whats the legal position again?
Am I right in thinking Hasbro have the names but not the molds so it would be do-able.

Sooo..what's the story on him? Not too familiar with Go-Bots - is it just a toy only, or was the series actually awesome to have a limo robot as a character?

Ahh, marvelous. Thanks.

So are the BotCon comics one-shots that are given away at the convention (or packed in with the toy sets)? From the reactions in this thread, it doesn't sound like past ones are worth looking up, though I'm kind of curious.
