Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

A few seconds in hot tap water definitely helped with the toy-style helmet. It'll go on without it but the fit is defintely easier once it's softened up a bit. I had no issues at all with the comic-style one but mileage seems to vary a ton from figure to figure. The turret-shield looks huge to me co...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

This is just the problems trying to swap parts between mold mates. Adding a Crashbar lower leg doesn't work at all, since it's longer than the other mold's lower leg. I may try swapping in both Crashbar legs. They're asymmetrical, so it'll fit the Shadow Striker aesthetic. I'll have to see if it'll...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Well, what do we think about the selection for the new Legacy figures? We've got a broad swath of series represented, and I feel that we in this thread should take full credit for it. "Mostly well-executed but mostly not for me" sums it up, I guess? The tiny Energon Megatron is probably m...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Dead End Bought this on Tantrum's recommendation, and I'm pretty happy with it. It pairs nicely with Drag Strip, who I've had for a while. Both modes look slick, the robot mode is fun to mess around with, and the transformation is neat. The dual-wielded, scoped pistols are a very dangerous l...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I remember seeing this when I was growing up...no air conditioning, high humidity and temps in the high 20s or low 30s would have the rubsigns going off on their own at least a few days every summer.

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I generally ignore Marvel US. The Marvel UK era I grew up with generally wasn't too bad for consistency, apart from the PM Prime to Scorponok equivalence, etc. I'm pretty sure this was from the first UK comic I ever read: https://i.imgur.com/5MM4mD8.png I think it's fairer to say that attention to ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

The comics have their own scale issues... https://i.imgur.com/tLcDQqi.png ...but I think that's more than understandable considering the medium. It's pretty tough to fit characters of all varying sizes into a single panel in an old-style 80s book that wasn't heavy on splash pages. That chart you pos...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Studio Series 86 Ironhide I forgot this was a Voyager-class toy, and since I was out buying back-to-school clothes for my son, I didn't realize what I'd paid for it until I got home and glanced at my receipt. Instant buyer's remorse! If I ignore the fact that I accidentally paid almost $50 fo...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

It's been a busy week! Legacy Axlegrease is weird. She's retooled from last year's Junkion tow truck, but she's a car. She uses the Shattered Glass Junkion colour scheme, but she'd not an SG character. She's got the '86 cartoon's "Nancy" Junkion's head, but she's not her. Most of the other...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

You'd think that I would be the one interested in old, obscure Canadian toy decos, but it was before my time. The only Slags I've ever seen in person are the G2 versions, and almost aways the normal silver deco. I was surprised to hear that blue Grimlock, red Snarl and green Slag were the were appar...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Nothing's stopping them from making proper-sized Leader-class toys when they want to. https://i.imgur.com/9K0BqKxm.jpg But why would they when large segments of the fandom are happy to trot out scale charts and use it as an excuse to pay more for less? I feel like a Leader Thunderwing would probably...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

The weapons are definitely the biggest upgrade from the Classics Seeker to the Earthrise one. The spring-loaded guns wound up looking way too big for everyone but Ramjet (who always had comically oversized guns). I am a tad disappointed that the G2 decos didn't come with an extra set of guns based o...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I honestly had no idea that Thunderwing even was a Pretender when I was a kid. Probably not until I got my Bludgeon in the early 90s and saw him in the accompanying toy catalogue? He was drawn pretty robotic-looking in the comics and he transformed into a huge jet once or twice, so I just assumed he...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Forgot to add earlier -- because of the Marvel headlining in what's generally considered Furman's most memorable work, vintage Bludgeons are really sodding expensive (and don't even come with the signature weapon etc). Getting an articulated one with additional accessories and that's a similar size...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

After all the booey Exclusives that came out over the last few years, it's nice to see at least Dirge showing up (crosses fingers for Ramjet and Thrust) again. I seem to recall hearing about an upcoming Ramjet reissue, but I think that was more "rumour" than "announcement". I'd ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

It's out and in stock now. No idea if the price is agreeable. They seem expensive for what they are, but then everything seems expensive now. Huh. When did that happen? I preordered the stupid thing two years ago (literally two years ago to the day actually, funny how that works out) and have recei...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Well, after seeing the variety of new stuff shown for the SDCC, I think that Hasbro's doing quite well with the variety of characters/decos offered. I like the breadth offered, even if it's simultaneous with frequent character retreads (Ultra Magnus again already?). Sticking by the criticism of pri...

Re: Original G1 designs plus articulation?

I would absolutely be interested in an Optimus, if it was priced like a regular Generations toy and not a "high end collectible". I'm not sure if the idea has much mileage beyond that, though. Soundwave would work, maybe the Dinobots...Megatron would be illegal in most places, Seekers woul...

And they seemed to be doing so well for an image hosting site. They've been a very good image-hosting site, but it seems like what they and their investors are trying to be is a social media site. And right now they're hosting a ton of adult images that are being posted to places like Reddit to dri...

Re: Anyone else thoroughly enjoying the Twitter dumpster fire?

Apparently the rest of the day consisted of people bombarding Musk with Xvideos.com jokes. Possibly to the point where he banned the porn site from Twitter X out of spite, but that last part might just be people mocking him for being a petty manchild. The entire situation has gotten so silly that I ...
