Re: Latest DVD Purchases

Likewise I think I've given up with CD players. Might as well just initially rip and sync over to a tablet. I'd forgotten about that... still rip everything pretty quickly but found an Oakcastle CD100 one that streams to speakers plugged into a Bluetooth receiver, which is rather handy and space-sa...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Motormaster for close to voyager RRP, which is reasonable. The trailer won't be doing anything any time soon, but might make a simple display piece when folded out. The cab and robot mode are decent oldschool voyager* in size and weight, and updating the design so that the (admittedly hefty)...

Re: Hey

I generally don't "buy" anything that the DRM can't be removed from. With Amazon/Audible that's trivial with normal ebooks/audiobooks. They don't really have any strong interest in making things too awkward for paying customers, and the publishing industry doesn't have that much leverage t...

Re: Hey

I think digital favours smaller publishers on the whole, and lets people (officially or unofficially) sample what they might like to pick up in TPB form. So given that comics shops are more collected editions and collectables than singles, it might be an overall plus for them... if they can compete ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Kapow have some lightly water-damaged stock included in their sale now, including Kingdom Galvatron at 1/4 RRP: https://www.kapowtoys.co.uk/category/sale.html Reminds me of Doubledealer insofar as he feels like a substantial voyager, and like a decent bargain at appreciably less than twenty quid del...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Transformers Retro The Transformers: The Movie Perceptor loose and complete for a decent discount, to go with the MC20 deco Selects figure and the TR one. Can't remember if I still have the RTS one in a tub somewhere, and having just googled it really don't care unless it's to borrow the head. On r...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

It'd be a harder sell to do Bludgeon again than Springer, Twin Twist, etc without more mould changes. The 'Destructicon' version as a voyager I could see some appeal in if the chest was remoulded (which would also let them double dip on another Western release of G2 Megatron, maybe the purple versio...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

If they've got any sense they'll pack an additional head in with Sandstorm rather than let it shelf warm. Who am I kidding? Yeah, I think Amazon would rather have fewer sales but more profit per item, due to the way they operate Prime. I like the MD sculpt (minus the paint) and Leadfoot, and the t-r...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I don't think IDW had any particular leverage or say in things. They were clearly thrown some bones with opportunities to do pack-in comics, and they've been a bit of a seam for designers to mine (after seeing the success of 3P stuff) but I'd be very surprised if they had anything to do with downpla...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Looks like the rest of the stock that Hasbro Pulse didn't clear itself ended up here too:

https://www.bargainmax.co.uk/brand/transformers.html

If anyone's still after Leadfoot, Scraphook, Leo Prime, etc. Free delivery on £10 or more, 10% off first order. Kind of tempted to get Motormaster.

The original Transmetal Optimal Optimus for seven quid including postage. Missing most of the accs like most of them (although found two clip in bits in the box before crushing it down) and the backpack part is detached (I've snipped off the remainder of the wiring, removed batteries and internals a...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

The current show (Earthrise?) has its own look and, from glancing at the toys in the aisle, lots of new characters and designs. In ten or fifteen years, they'll be in the equivalent of Legacy the way Chase and Tarn are now. Optimist. It'll mostly still be G1 Prime and Bumblebee, made hollow enough ...

Mmm. I only really know what he looks like based on the From Dusk 'Til Dawn era, but can see it. The head is Marvel's The Hood so there may be a direct source material reference in those comics too. This guy, abducted by aliens and augmented to talk to cities, is https://www.writeups.org/jack-hawksm...

It's the Kidrobot big foam Swine Sucker: https://toywiz.com/madballs-series-2-swine-sucker-foam-ball/ and off to the left there are some rubber ones of Dust Brain, Freaky Fullback and the modern Blech Beard that have an inner pouch filled with liquid that'll doubtless age as badly as the originals. ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I had to look up Globequake. Remembered it being highly regarded but not what it was. CR/RID is a continuity I still haven't watched, but some of the designs are cool in and of themselves. Not sure that RR could carry a fake crowdfund type project. Considered as a 3P toy it seems fair enough for any...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Super7 Transformers Ultimates Bludgeon off someone with buyer's remorse. Bit floppy I guess, but the hands on this and the fire sale Banzai-Tron I picked up to go with him are much better than the Bombshell ones. He's noticeably bigger than Banzai-Tron, and whilst I might want to get the helmet to ...

Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

Bit more on The Authority, need to symbol up Midnighter at least and not a great angle on Jenny (does have a neck) but getting to the "eh, good enough" standard I was aiming for.

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

I think they could have made the Subaru design work on-screen with relatively few tweaks, and the argument that it took until the BB movie for CGI to progress to being able to do boxier designs rather than the Murphy/Bay designs is more than a bit of a cop-out. The Dodge Viper also, perhaps. But the...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Hasbro's Dungeons & Dragons Dicelings count as transformers, right? Got the red dragon ages ago (which doesn't represent the overweight Themberchaud at all) plus a cheap orange beholder recently and then went for the white owlbear and the displacer beast since they're being clearanced off by som...
