Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

i honestly don't think I could do a top-ten this year. Looking back at the spreadsheet I keep of stuff that I buy, it looks like I bought 16 2023 releases...but I've either completely forgotten about, or actively dislike, most of them. Let's see how far I can get with the stuff I actually enjoyed! U...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Got a couple of Transformers for Christmas. Neither were ones that I had a burning desire for, but one of them turned out really nice. Legacy Nightprowler Having owned Shadow Panther for a year-plus already, no big surprises here. I found that I like the figure significantly more in shades of grey t...

Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

Marvel Legends Spider-Woman I don't follow the comics closely enough to know where this black-and-red version of Jessica Drew is from. It looks like she got lost and took a costume from Miles Morales' closet by mistake. It's a nice look for her, though after having it for a few days I think I prefe...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Yeah, I'm surprised that we've never gotten Wheeljack from the mold, even after they did SG Sideswipe. With the rounder lines, it was the first redeco that came to mind for me. But honestly, there are so many Transformers using the basic transformation scheme that you could make a new Sideswipe ever...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I love that Sideswipe! It's probably my favourite rendition of the character design, all in all. More fun to handle than the MP or the old Universe toy. I own a few different decos of it, though I've never gotten one of the Earth-mode versions. Always thought that the rounder lines of the Siege one ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Autobot Stampede Whenever I've seen pictures of that mold, I've always been struck by how cool it looks! I'm sad to hear it's not actually any good. Glad you could make it work for you, though. Now... how to do a custom Megadeath? If you're aiming for the Pretender shell-ish look of the original an...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

SS86 Frenzy is a bit of a surprise. I mostly got it because Soundwave feels incomplete without someone to stuff inside his cassette door, and I never managed to find any of the previous options. But all in all I'm quite happy with it. It feels like a streamlined downscaling of the MP tapes. I actua...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Every Transformer is a ripoff at retail price these days. That weedy little Core Snarl cost $17 plus tax or something ridiculous like that. I could buy a new-release console game for what a Leader costs! Heck, I bought my kid a pretty good tablet that cost less than a Titan.

Re: He-Man.org closing in a week

That's a real shame. :(

I'm not a He-Man guy myself, but that site's been a staple of the internet for, what, 25 years? Is there still an active community on the site, or was it mostly an historical place by this point? Either way, I could only imagine the hole it'll leave in the fandom.

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I'd agree with most of that, but I think Cores/Basics/whatever you call them are the sweet spot where ball joints are usually the best solution. On anything bigger, swivel-hange combos usually work better. On anything smaller, like you say, less is usually more. But ball joints on these guys just se...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Sneaky f*ckers. The empty thighs and that split tail at head height look awful, too. Plus are the hips moulded red? If so there's no excuse for not doing the sword in red too. No, most of the toy is molded in the wrong colour and then painted over. There actually isn't a single molecule of red plas...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Snarl A massive step down from the Legends-class Pretenders I got from last year's assortment. It's visibly and unattractively hollow from every viewing angle, the highlight of which is probably the giant hole in his crotch. The figure looks silly holding its sword, since they gave it a 3mm-...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

The silver is has held up really well on the Powerdasher overall, through fairly light handling. There's been a bit of light scuffing at the joints, though I don't think I'd notice it if the figure wasn't meant to be disassembled. The paint is Krylon "premium original chrome". It's difficu...

Much better:

Well, except that I forgot that this silver paint took over a month to cure when I used it on Chromar, so I won't actually be able to handle it until Christmas...

Aside from the silly factory colour layouts it really is a nice figure.

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I wish I knew which box I left the Legends-class bugs in. The only one I can find is Chop Shop. I'd imagine they look good with this set. The paint is already drying on the head -- I started disassembling the toy almost immediately after my last post. The good news is that unlike most of the recent ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Bombshell As seems to be the pattern lately, Hasbro saved the worst for last. That isn't to say that Bombshell is awful, but Kickback and Shrapnel had a feeling of "mission accomplished" to them that he's just lacking. Hasbro set out to make Deluxe-class Insecticons that were as cl...

Re: Living in interesting times

It's important to be clear on exactly what ideology we're talking about, too. This isn't like the PLO from back when we were kids, or even Fatah in the West Bank. The founding principle of Hamas isn't "Freedom for Palistine", it is "drive the Jews into the sea". They're not TRYIN...

Re: Living in interesting times

Yeah, as much as we'd like to pretend otherwise, our countries didn't defeat the Axis by meeting their armies out in an open field of battle and besting them in honourable combat. We beat them by indiscriminately flattening German and Japanese cities with air power until they didn't have the manpowe...

Re: Living in interesting times

Mmm. Genocide would be more accurate -- hundreds of thousands of people crammed into a few square miles of land being starved, and a much larger number of civilians on both "sides" put at risk by war criminals in Hamas and war criminals in a far right Israeli govt. This is what a real war...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

The shoulders on that Laser Prime were what talked me out of buying one, but the entire package felt like a step backwards from the original. I feel like that says a lot, them not being able to make a toy that's objectively better than the source material from 1995... My understanding is that they m...
