Not sure why they're so expensive, at my local Smythe's Toy Superstore in Wigan, Roadbuster, Topspin et al are all under £10? There was an offer at the time, but even then they had Darkmount/Straxus for £4.99, I was just window shopping on my way to watch 'Green Lantern'. My collecting days are well...

Carnivac and Catilla in 'Time Wars' and their subsequent stories were a nice change from the clichéd Decepticon stereotypes and it was interesting to see how their characters changed according to the various conflicts and alliances poresented to them. Likewise Needlenose and Spinister in the follow ...

On reflection I actually quite liked the realisation of Devastator in 'ROTF', I like to think of him as basically one oafish transformer that separates into multiple alt modes, rather than the traditional several transformers merging into a completely different one. It neatly sidestepped the whole i...

I think the execution and portrayal of Soundwave and Ravage in 'ROTF' were perfect to be honest, Soundwave as a satellite array just fits and Ravage was similarly ace. Not much in terms of characterisation for either over the course of the film really, but in terms of the original characters they ta...

What amused me was in the description of the toys in the store catalogue here in the UK. Describing how, say Bumblebee, transforms into a car and a piece of his shoulder changes into a jet bike/glider for the mini fig, although in reality it's a flat piece of Lego style kibble, that could be anything...

Picked up a KRE-O Jazz, mainly for the minifig. Putting the regular sized figure together is going to be a challenge. One of out local UK chain stores has some Kre-O figures in, Bumblebee, Mirage, Prowl, Sideswipe and the two Primes. They look curiously compelling, I may start with a sneaky Prowl a...

Got Final Fantasy VII from Half.com a few days ago. I take it that's on an original PS1? PS3s are they backwards compatible? I only ask as FF7 and FF8 are two of my favourite games of all time and I'm thinking of investing in a PS3 and that could swing it. I have all my old PS1 games, but couldn't ...

Cars is halfway there already I was thinking more in an adult, off kilter setting with slightly more mature character designs! Cars and Cars 2 are undeniable low points in Pixar's history, but Bird is awesome and if you let the designers free for some edgier designs, at the very least characterisat...

So in the event of the inevitable reboot, I personally would like something totally different, maybe a total CGI number with Brad Bird directing a totally robot centred story away from the humans. Not that the humans weren't integral and without success in Bay's films, but to have a rehash of first ...

"Just one more thing.."
Peter Falk inspired second post! Another point I think the reason Carly jars so significantly for some is probably her plum British accent, it seems quite otherworldly in the context of fast talking American actors and military jingoism. The actress was satisfactory, nothing more, nothing less, I wo...

Poor Ironhide :( Well just got back from watching it, in 3D no less, although this was forced on me as in Wigan people only watch 2D and all 2D showings were booked out solid! Could be a taster for the film's future success, seems to be doing BIG business so far. Well the 3D was amazing for the most...

Thanks all, especially Anglo, luckily since my divorce, I've been mortgage free and have finally paid off all my debts from student loans and wedding bills. (The irony of still paying off my wedding after my divorce came through wasn't lost on me :P) So it really is a fresh start, as for collections...

In reference to Jurrasic Park, I agree they stand up well, but both the first and second one benefit from a lot of major set pieces being set at night and in the rain, masks any potential dating of effect quite well. The daylight scenes, such as the Brontosaurus do look a bit iffy, but considering w...

So erm, I'm moving to Jersey...
If folks recall I'm employed by the NHS and on a whim I decided to apply for a job in Jersey, it's only an £8000 pay increase per year! This sounds ace, but the cost of living is directly proportionate to the salary (Quorn is 88p more expensive per 300g!), but I thought what the hell anyway at the w...

Having read the books a few times, I feel it's one of the few occasions where the film is better than the source material. Tolkien's premise and story outline is great stuff, but his prose and writing style is stale and borderline academic in it's narrative, all appendices and impenetrable languages...
