Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Hasbro has time, even allowing for likely predatory Wal-Mart standard terms (I always think of the classic gherkin example and assume they're as shitty even to other big companies). The moulds will happily store and be used for a good while before they're written off to be boat anchors or whatever. ...

Re: Living in interesting times

The water industry was privatised... end of the 80s? So there might have been some understanding that alleged scope for improvement from that wouldn't come to fruition in five years or so. It's been another quarter century, firms have paid massive amounts to investors and a lot of that money's gone ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

The situation with VW is a bit of a unique one fraught with additional restrictions and probably negotiated time-limits on releases. The classic alt mode of one of their most recognisable/bankable characters is bound up in another company's imaginary property rights. I don't think there's ever been ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Yeah, can't imagine he's a big draw. As well as or instead of straight reuse in the next line maybe a Selects version as a Gobot character with an alternate head already part of the mould. They won't want to waste the tooling.

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I'm sure it'll be back at some point. Hasbro's running full tilt at producing enough designs, standard variants and novel variants to spray them around retailers in the hope of getting product stocked in brick and mortar stores (Target, Walgreens, etc) plus dumping extras on bundles with Amazon. The...

Re: Thoughts on Earthspark

Filler line to keep the brand visible and have some current media available whilst there aren't films out, with CGI being cheap. Also something that Hasbro corporately can point to as being inclusive whilst simultaneously giving licences to model companies to use the brand on products for fans who w...

Fan fiction and art is fine.

If you're posting text, I'd recommend doing the basics with spell checking, capitalisation, punctuation and paragraphing.

Re: Micromasters idw

I don't think IDW reprinted it. Possibly it was one of the books where the rights were contested because the writers/artists didn't get paid. The trade paperback is therefore going to be rare, but individual issues #1-4 should be fairly easy to get on eBay (particularly if you're in the US). Not lea...

Re: An old timer like me.....

Must be a really big BW fan on staff. For (at least one of) the Soundwave reissues didn't they just use the Soundblaster mould? From memory pretty sure it took two cassettes. Japan likes dinosaurs, maybe not as much as kaiju, but they got more dino-cassettes, dino pretender shells, etc. And of cours...

Re: An old timer like me.....

Yep, was English although didn't do much with it apart from various stints of TEFL. Been in more of an IT/audit/fraud role for over a decade at this point. The transfans.com and transfans.net domains are long gone and technically http://transfans.co.uk/community/ is still around (I did a bit of work...

Re: An old timer like me.....

People and time mostly seem to have fragmented over small subsets of social media platforms. It's pretty hit and miss at what point things get clearanced and what point they inflate in asking price once no longer readily available; I think the main takeaway is that there are probably far fewer units...

Re: An old timer like me.....

Surviving, touch wood. Hope things are okay with you. There are a few smaller events that maybe have/will re-emerge, but TFN is still the main one having taken over from AA (a lot of the same people involved). The most recent offline ones were pretty big (>1000 attendees if memory serves) and there'...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Not my original Springer -- the stickers were knackered (without them it's closer to my original, I rarely applied things) and a tail fin missing, but given some guns (KO blue 3P iGear Delicate Warrior bits) and rotors (drone size fitted to LEGO pin) and tires (wide LEGO ones roughly stretched aroun...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I was impressed to see that the nosecone folded back to become the robot's air intakes, and he has way less kibble in robot mode than I'd expected. In fact, the robot is just great, overall! But it's hard to find anything nice to say about the alt mode, especially if you stack it up against the FoC...

It's probably a contemporary knock-off/clone. Didn't buy any transparent ones personally but did get quite a few non-Takara WST/Smallest figures back then.

Re: Odd Computer Question

I'm assuming a cabled connection and built-in wi-fi hardware. My deductive process would go, not necessarily in order: 1. Try any USB wi-fi adapters that are lying around. 2. Get a router. 3. Boot from an Ubuntu (or derivative) live image and see whether creating a hotspot works there. Stick the acc...

Neat. BTW, I assume you'll already have, but mentioning in case not, Flint Dille put out an autobiography a bit ago that's a decent read;
