Re: [FAN EDIT] Transformers (1986) - Prime lives!

First experience probably counts for a lot. I think I may have seen the Ladybird book adaptation first, which doesn't have the same impact, followed by the UK home video release that has a Victor Caroli voiceover promising that the story isn't over and Prime will return. Even the film as released ha...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

I expect investigations into Benefit Fraud committed during the pandemic will go about as well as HMRC looking into all those companies claimed government hardship loans that they definitely needed. SFIS predates the pandemic by years. It ties in with the IDS era of UC and all of the representation...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I appreciate the puzzle of them as much as something say, like a rubiks cube (as I am sure many people do) without necessarily being able to 'see' how the parts are going to end up. Before and after photos have certainly gotten handier as designs have gotten more complex -- too much lining up panel...

Re: [FAN EDIT] Transformers (1986) - Prime lives!

Archive.org isn't much different from any other file host in that respect, it just happens to keep abandonware and public interest content up longer through general acceptance. The film's reissued regularly these days and it's unlikely that relatively short edits would count as transformative fair u...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Benefit investigation went from being coordinated by local authorities (where it was quite effective, despite financial disincentives built into the model -- effectively they lost out for each fraud successfully pursued) to most of the investigators being TUPEd over to the DWP. Ex-colleagues who mad...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Yeah, particularly their history of handling of concepts like not reallocating NINOs and what's happened to fraud referral since they absorbed benefit investigation staff. And the first couple of reviews of UC by the NAO were masterfully written. I'd prefer less information (with any grade of pseudo...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I've even seen a sizable number of fans who say they've never transformed their toys at all! I think there's a large contingent of buyers who only care about the characters and look on the transformation as a necessary evil. Which is fine, everyone enjoys these things differently. Long since got to...

Re: Removing Drain Covers.

Depends what you mean by hand tools. A short wrecking bar will pry most things, and a chisel and hammer will get through most things. Just be sure you have the supplies to replace parts and to patch concrete if necessary, same as you would if eg fitting a new storm drain. If they're glued in you mig...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

It's already going that way. The thing is, this exchange sums it up: https://twitter.com/poppy_haze/status/1378438892198760451 "THIS IS HUGE: New HIV vaccine with a 97% antibody response rate in phase I human trials. IIRC, this is the most effective HIV vaccine to date. This is based on the Moderna'...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Yeah, more tired than usual the evening after, but couldn't separate from busy week. Same with having gotten an exercise bike I'm not used to, haven't been on a bike since I was a kid, but figured since I haven't been walking much it fits quite well with sticking on videos whilst letting the rabbits...

Re: Marvel Phase 4

The Electric was similar, about half rows of armchairs and half sofas. Coffee, cocktails, antipasto, handmade cake, etc. and not pretentious with it, a studenty place. Lots of screenings of classic films as well as new releases. I could've gotten tickets to see the premiere of a Ghostbusters documen...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Probably not recommended but I did enough of a workout a few hours after the first jab figuring that if I felt under the weather or a bit achey I'd have something else to pin it on as well. I've got my jabs booked in, so that's exciting. Also had my first MMR jab this week, as it turns out the Docto...

Re: Marvel Phase 4

I wonder if they'll stop demanding such a large cut of opening run ticket sales from cinemas and let them get back on their feet? That's been slowly killing the medium for years. I don't hate cinemas per se, but the best experiences have been ones with bars and no kids, and with news of how the Elec...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Pattern seems to be people react a bit to the 2nd Pfizer and the 1st AZ. If you don't get vaccinated, you're simply a better and more hospitable vector than you would be if you do get vaccinated. Basically. Papers in the last week or so (as well as national press conferences) pointing out the signif...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Whilst there's understandable caution about making statements or claims that vaccines provide sterile immunity, data so far does support significant reductions in transmission. That tallies with infection being largely predicated on viral load. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56211755 (Just as int...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

It is a chemical. Very dangerous that dihydrogen monoxide stuff -- https://www.dhmo.org/facts.html Beyond skepticism, would happily see most governments shut in an indoor stadium with the coke can (possibly milk carton by now) that would theoretically contain every molecule of covid in the world. Fa...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

There is an edit button, unlike more primitive platforms. Yeah, ultimately I'm in the "protect society or stay away from it" camp and the same with people who are sudden converts to a nationalised health service if the worst happens but don't look after their health with diet, vaccinations, not smok...
