Re: Questions about Beast Machines

Hasbro have made a few toys of Lio Convoy, so they acknowledge that he exists at the very least. And he was a pretty important character in IDW's Gathering and Ascending comics as well, but IDW wasn't very respectful of the Japanese shows and those books definitely didn't keep to the shows' canon. G...

Re: unicron Armada, reflector and catalog brochures, promo posters

I didn't know that! That's neat. But I would still weight the Armada one more heavily as it basically had the back 50% of the Armada cartoon pushing it. You're probably right. I'd also guess that a lot of kids who bought it, bought it to be Armada Unicron anyway since that was their exposure to the...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

As I say above, I think they may have started out as internal proof-of-concept customs for what became TM2s. Or, they may have started as their own wacky remolds for retail sale that, upon reflection, they liked and developed into the general 'look' of the TM2s for the following year. Again, we'll ...

Re: unicron Armada, reflector and catalog brochures, promo posters

There's also the hair to split about the Armada version being a general retail item aimed at kids at the time, and the 2010 version being an online exclusive aimed more towards adult collectors. I'm pretty sure the 2010 one was only Amazon-exclusive in the States, though. I bought mine off the shel...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Last weekend I ordered what I thought was an Energon Command Ravage from eBay. I say "thought", because what actually arrived was this: https://i.imgur.com/mXleA14m.jpg Something seemed off when I unboxed it, but it took me a while to realize what. The tan paint on the limbs and face was all wrong! ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

The Easter Bunny delivered junk food to some houses over the weekend. A Stampy brought ours. https://i.imgur.com/sSa0mxa.jpg What kills me, absolutely kills me, is that the Transtech designs were even weirder , but because those were never made, some people are quite vocal about wanting them. I've a...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Yeah, looking back over the list of figures, the first 12 or 18 months of molds are relatively conventional and 'normal' design-wise (reusing animal limbs for robot mode and the like). It's really the BWNeo stuff and Transmetal 2s where they went crazy. I feel like the weirdness scaled up every yea...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

his spinny tail thing Does it actually, properly spin like the old toy? Not gonna lie, that would probably convince me to buy the thing right then and there. Oddly enough, getting Dinobot might have convinced me to not get Kingdom Rattrap. I think the Generations Rattrap scales with him better. The...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I opened my RiD trunk and what were the first things I came across? Only the 2003 Dinobots! Your links aren't working on mobile for me, for whatever reason. They're fine on my laptop though. The only one of these that I have is Terranotron...picked him up in a trade with a fellow Archiver a few yea...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

So, some gubbins turned up this week which took the edge of my dad suddenly passing away on Tuesday :( I'm really sorry to hear that. :( No matter how old or young they are, or how expected or unexpected it was, losing a parent is never easy. Beast Wars Neo Stampy Vs Sling I have these guys! The fu...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Seems that way, doesn't it. For a time I really wanted that Beast Wars Returns Blackarachnia ( Beast Machines in Japan), but holy f*** is that thing ludicrously (and frankly, arbitrarily) priced on the secondary market. I'm not sure it's that arbitrary, really. They're not just your bog-standard Ta...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

You meanie, you have a Rapticon! :( I'm one of those odd ones that actually likes the original use of the mold, even if the arms are admittedly a confusing mess. But I agree, the TM2 Dinobot mold wears these colors so much better. That shiny cobalt blue is doing something for me, and the detailing ...

Beast Wars Transmetal Waspinator: You know what one of the best parts about collecting Beast Wars toys is? Thanks to 90s toy speculators, MISB or MOSC stuff is usually cheap enough that you can buy it with the intention of opening it and not have to question your own sanity for doing so. I love bei...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Three new arrivals from eBay today! Beast Wars Jetstorm: Way cuter than I expected from a Predacon bug! The head sculpt is adorable. The fact that it's just blatantly hanging out there in beast mode is even more so. Dragonfly mode is super slick. Robot mode less is so, it's pretty pudgy and not very...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Lines like Beast Machines that don't do well at retail frequently become sort after down the line. I suspect why prices have crept up recently. I think you're right. No one wants to buy them, so no one bothers selling them, and eventually the very limited supply sinks to a level where it meets the ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

All right, this is the excuse I needed to go dig out the BW toys I've been talking about digging out for months. Time to WEIRD OUT THE NEIGHBOURS BY PLAYING WITH TOYS ON THE FRONT LAWN \o/ Do it! If the neighbours don't think you're weird you're not trying hard enough. The brilliant graphic design ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Please don't turn my happy "remember to unbox and play with your old toys!" thread into a fight, guys. :) I think some of you would be surprised by the number of literal twelve year olds partaking in the more active corners of the fandom these days. In general there are TONS of teens and early twent...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not interested in the slightest; the originals are perfect (to me) just the way they are. I have no urge for any updates. I think the most appealing (for me at least) would be the prospect of a mass-retail Beast Wars Ravage. It's down to personal taste, of course, but I do t...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Love the outdoor pics with BW figures. I do a lot of outdoor photos but never seem to actually get around to posting them. I really enjoy shooting the Beast Wars stuff outside though. I feel like the colours and designs really pop in natural light in ways that carbots or the like just don't. I'd qu...
