CLUB AND CONVENTION TRANSFORMERS COMICS

Reunification, Part 4
Reviewed by Blackjack

Issue Review

"I must say, dear Computron, your diction has improved since last we met."
Easily the most entertaining of anything in the club magazine, other than the earliest Vector Prime stories. Again, another example of how, like the Cybertron cartoon universe, this benefits from prior stories. Cliffjumper, Megatron and Starscream are all pre-established characters, and pretty fun ones at that. Idiot Computron and poet Abominus are so much fun, too, with some of the more clever dialogue I've ever seen between them. Landquake proves to be good fun now that he's not moping around. Again, Aquarius ties up all the mumbo-jumbo plot rather quickly in three frames (instead of three chapters), which is a stark contrast to whatever drivel the Caretaker or whatever gave us. Cyclonus' sudden betrayal is good fun, and even the whole reunification bit doesn't seem so bad now that it's about to end. Here is hoping that Alpha Trion won't show up and shit over everything with his grand plans and stuff. Shame we don't get to see more of Abominus and Computron.

Notes

Heatwave and Starscream had previously been on Earth during the events of the Shattered Glass text stories. However, Heatwave was transported to Cybertron during a Stellar Spanner incident in 'Blitzwing Bop', and Starscream's travel would apparently be told in a future Shattered Glass text story.

Omega Terminus is the Shattered Glass version of Vector Sigma, and if Aquarius is not talking rubbish then it is likewise connected to the other Vector Sigma computers in the multiverse, just a wee touch on the evil side.

It was Aquarius' activating of the recall button that was able to shunt the Candy Cane Squad into the Shattered Glass universe from the Classics and TransTech universes, explaining the opening of the dimensional gates or whatever.

As before in the Shattered Glass comic, Cliffjumper is missing those ugly white decals on the Classics toy. Perhaps interdimensional travel wiped it out?

Who's Who

Computron is basically an idiot who fancies himself smart. 'Computron concludes that the small robots are teleporters! Computron curses Computron's luck!'

Abominus, of course, uses Computron's colour scheme. He is a very polite poet. No, really.

Cyclonus' Targetmaster partner is the Shattered Glass version of Krunix. For the unitiated, in G1 Krunix is a very obscure character. You see, in the US Headmasters comic, at one point the artist drew Nightstick (Cyclonus' Targetmaster partner) on Cybertron and was referred to in dialogue as Cyclonus. However, UK imported the comic, they spotted the error. Rather than changing the art (which would take a long time) they simply changed the 'Cyclonus' in the dialogue into 'Krunix'.

Deathcobra, another obscure Japanese character, owes his colouring to the G.I. Joe villain Serpentor, who has a snake fetish just like Deathcobra.

Obviously, since Cyclonus is a super-loyal Decepticon in the G1 cartoon, here he is the mole that betrays Megatron.

Goofs

When Computron falls down he seems tiny, as if he's the size of Landquake and the others.

How did Landquake know about Heatwave's name? Yeah, Alpha Trion and/or Aquarius might have told him, but still...
