CLUB AND CONVENTION TRANSFORMERS COMICS
Transformers Beast Wars: Critical Mass

Issue Review
Boring. Other than the fact that the comic serves no function whatsoever than to promote the two new toys, there’s nothing to note here. Both Fractyl and Packrat have interesting bios, one a scientist unappreciated by Megatron while the other is a thief. However, the whole plot, edging on stuff like ‘Anti-Energon’, ‘Energon armour’ and [shudder] ‘Furmanite’, coupled with the sub-par (compared to the TV show) art, the clichéd ending and complete disregard for continuity, there’s not much to read here.
Notes
The comic was available in BotCon 1997.
They use G2-styled speech bubbles, with the Maximals having squares on the side of their bubbles, while the Predacons have triangles.
Furmanite is Simon Furman’s ego at work.
The whole concept about energon radiation places this in Season One.
In case you didn’t notice, this reminds you to pick up the year’s convention exclusives Fractyl and Packrat.
Goofs
There is no possible way to shoehorn this into the Beast Wars cartoon continuity, unless there’s an earlier story where Fractyl and Packrat are introduced (not impossible) while a latter story where they die/disappear. However, it’s not likely for the two to disappear completely if this is in continuity with the TV show.
Airazor and Inferno have looks that are based on their toys, leading to some… awkward poses at times.
