Blackjack's review: Legends class Hound
Name: Hound
Alligeance: Autobot
Function: Scout
Series: Universe Classics Legends
"Observe everything, remember even more."
Hound was originally meant to be the kid-appeal character in the Cartoon instead of Bumblebee. This can be proven in the early pilot episodes 'More than Meets the Eye,' in which he had the interaction time with Spike, a role in which Bumblebee would fill in subsequent episodes. Why change Hound into Bumblebee as the kid-appeal? I dunno. It's a great mystery. Like how Bumper got produced mistakenly. And like how Rumble is blue in the cartoon. Don't ask.
That aside, now, Hound appears first in G1, and only in recent years has Hasbro decided to brush the dust off Hound in the form of the Alternators toy and reissue toy (if I'm not mistaken. It's either that or encore or commemorative). It's better than, say, Gears or Huffer or Reflector. Poor guys. Been MIA since G1. Anyway, Hound got not one but two original molds for the Universe Classics line. One is the deluxe class toy, with Ravage piggybacking, and the other is this tiny goodness of a Legends class toy.
ALTERNATE MODE
Hound in G1 was a Mitsubishi J59 jeep with a hologram gun. Yes, Hound is the guy that could create holograms. Laugh all you want but it fooled lots of people. Especially Rumble. He hates that. Coupled with Mirage they're a scary duo.
While Deluxe Hound seems to be geared on Hound having a new updated alternated mode, like Universe Silverbolt or Prowl, this Hound is very reminiscent of G1. Why, it even has the silver engine in front! And the yellow star!
Hound's colours are attractive and shines in my collection of mostly stereotypical blacks and whites and reds and grays. Although he's a 'Car' in G1, he's been reduced into 'Minibot' size now. He's currently displayed amongst my Minibot 5 pack along with fellow wee Autobots Red Alert and Jazz.
The windshield is loose by the way. It can and will come off.
Chairs and driving wheels are molded, and bright silver adorns details. His wheels are green for some reason. Overall, an excellent vehicle mode. Man I love Hound. Too bad they don't have a tiny hologram gun.
ROBOT MODE
Hound's so cute in robot mode. While decidedly boxy, it's part of his charm. The chairs form his toes, and well... You can figure out the rest yourself.
His hands are hard to pose due to the wheels getting in the way, and the wonderfully coloured head is static, but those are easily ignored flaws. My little cousins adore him.
What's more to say about Hound? Other than why the hell Hasbro didn't make him kid-appeal? I mean, BB and him can, like, take turns with Spike.
TRANSFORMATION 3/10 Not much tougher than other Legends class.
PRICE 10/10 Worth it, and more.
FUN 10/10 Even my father was impressed by his cuteness. That's gotta say something.
DURABILITY 7/10 It's the bloody windshield.
OVERALL 9/10 Even if it's just grabbing some bright green to liven up your collection, Legends class Hound is a must-have. I'm planning to snag most of the Classics legends, especially Cosmos, Beachcomber, Brawn and of course little yellow Bee!
