A ruthless and brutal tyrant, Megatron is the most infamous of the Decepticons. He yearns to rule not only Cybertron, but every world within his reach. His ambition is matched only by his physical power, which is second to none. Although he has no love lost for the Autobots or their leader Optimus Prime, he is currently preoccupied with overthrowing his rival Gigatron.

Character History

In the year 2005, Megatron was vanquished in battle by Optimus Prime. His battered body was reformatted into Galvatron, a new Decepticon with a different spark. Megatron's life force became one with the Matrix, but like that of his Autobot opposite number, it refused to stay put. During Thunderwing's uprising, acting Decepticon leader Gigatron was driven by the Chaos Matrix to build a new body for Megatron and give life to it. This quickly backfired on him as Megatron broke free, kidnapped Gigatron and fled to Earth.

Megatron had hoped to have free reign on the planet, but the Quintesson invasion of Cybertron soon forced the surviving Autobots and Decepticons to abandon their home and head for Earth as well. Galvatron, who had resumed control of the Decepticons in the interim, was none to amused to find that his past self had returned, let alone that he had abducted his close friend. He led a siege on Megatron's hideout, and with help from Gigatron Megatron was deactivated.

That could have been the end, but it wasn't. Optimus Prime, his own psyche damaged by his exposure to the Chaos Matrix, recovered Megatron's remains and rebuilt them, hoping to turn his old enemy into a weapon he could use against his successors. Prime was seen wielding Megatron's pistol mode in combat numerous times and doing so very effectively…that is, until the inevitable day when Megatron broke free and tried to destroy Prime. Optimus was victorious in their battle, defeating many of the demons that haunted him in the process.

That likewise could have been the end, if not for the foolishness of the Quintessons who held Cybertron. Desperate to find a weapon to use against Galvatron, who was running amok on the planet interfering in there interests, they stole Megatron's remains, rebuilt them into a body powerful enough to match Galvatron and brainwashed him into being their agent. Unfortunately for them, they underestimated Megatron's resolve. Within a few days he had broken free of their control and started pursuing his own agenda.

After the aliens had been driven off of Cybertron, Megatron was content to bide his time and watch the situation develop. He didn't like what he saw – Galvatron was missing and presumed dead, leaving Gigatron in overall command. The sixchanger was devoting himself to prepare for a confrontation with the Cybertronian Empire instead of expanding the faction's territory on Cybertron. Displeased, Megatron began masterminding his own return to power. He abducted Optimus Prime with the help of the Space Mafia, then assisted the latter as they ran amok in Polyhex. He used the unrest caused by the Space Mafia activities to destabilize Gigatron's regime, then poisoned the other Decepticon leader's relations with the Autobots by arranging Prime's 'rescue' and blaming Gigatron for the abduction. Megatron quickly rocketed to power, seizing control of Polyhex and regaining the loyalty of many of his former followers.

“Everything is fodder.” – Megatron's Marvel comics motto.

Physical Abilities

Megatron's primary weapon is an incredibly powerful high-velocity railgun that accelerates simple steel slugs to one tenth the speed of light. Technological advances have allowed his fusion rifle, a hand-held variant of his original weapon, to be downsized to fit into the shell of a standard assault carbine with only minimal loss of power. He has the ability to generate low-yield neutron implosions and can increase his physical abilities tenfold by consuming raw antimatter.

Personal Relationships

A mech in Megatron's position can't afford very many friends, but he numbers Ravage and Soundwave in that category. Although he often feigns concern for his other soldiers, in the final tally he considers them expendable.
