United/RTS Rumble & Frenzy

Post by Clay »

Where are they?

I scoffed at the initial price of $50 some odd dollars for two scout figures. Now BBTS, TFsource, Robotkingdom, and any other online store I can think of has them listed as 'out of stock'. Ebay listings are uniformly in the $110 - $130 range with shipping. That's ten times what two scouts should cost. Ten!

Then I remembered, "oh right, Hasbro's releasing a blue one. I can just get two and paint the other." Not so! Apparently the wave of scouts that included Rumble is MIA in the wake of the DOTM line's arrival - no stores whatsoever even list it as a preorder or acknowledge that such a wave was ever planned.

It's annoying enough to make a thread for it, it is.

Eh, they're just two more Decepticons that turn into tanks ... and we've had enough of those lately. Plus, they're pretty ugly looking things. I'd guess that their release has just been pushed back / put on hold now that the DOTM merchandising juggernaught has swung into action. Pretty much anywhere that's not a specialist retailer in the UK has been clearing through all TF lines in preparation of the new stuff.

Yea, I heard (some rumor) they have been pushed back to late DOTM and will be repacked into DOTM package. Who knows.

Hasbro will put them out eventually. We've seen packaged samples of the blue one, so the figures have probably been produced and are waiting in a warehouse somewhere for an opportunity to get shipped out.

That's what will probably happen, but don't forget that the last time we had a situation like that, it was Animated Thundercracker.

Fair enough. I think the key difference though is that Thundercracker was a redeco while Rumble was the first use of a new mold. Not releasing him means they paid out a whole lot of cash for nothing.

Unfortunately this also applies to Animated Blackout and Wingblade Prime [sold with the deluxe version].

I'm all for hasbro releasing R and F, but it doesn't look too bright at the moment.

Did we actually see packaged samples of those guys, though? I thought we only saw test shots at BotCon or something, but I could be wrong...didn't pay much attention to Animated stuff. We've already seen Rumble, Bodyblock and...er...Downshift? in packaging, and I think that means they've gotten farther along than the Animated stuff did.

Blackout's really the only one that counts as a new mold out of the bunch though (Thundercracker's a redeco and Prime's a remold), and Hasbro did try to release him. Since Animated wasn't a big seller they couldn't find a retailer who would take him, but that's a fairly unique circumstance. Since they're Classics stuff that could easily be inserted into whatever the current line is at the time, Rumble and Frenzy aren't going to fall into that same trap.
