You're whizzing through that.
There's lots of innuendo about Pertwee and Manning, but I don't know if it has any basis in fact or if it's just an assumption everyone who has seen them together has made.

Trying to do one serial a day. Doesn't always work because life, etc, but weekends are catch-up time where (providing they're not like seven or eight parters) I can squeeze in a couple or more a day if I've got nothing else to do.inflatable dalek wrote:You're whizzing through that.
Plus the quicker I get through Pertwee, the sooner it's over. Hopefully I'll have finished season 11 by the end of next week so I can have a sanity break with Victory before cracking on with Tom's glorious "mostly 4s" format.
I'll be honest, I'd completely forgotten the rumours until the scene in question, at which a part of my brain just piped up with "yeah, they clearly want each other", so I can see why people would make the assumption. There's lots of innuendo about Pertwee and Manning, but I don't know if it has any basis in fact or if it's just an assumption everyone who has seen them together has made.

I seem to be having a random One Eyed Monsters of Doctor Who week with The Ark and City of Death. Have to be some Peladon tomorrow I guess...
Lalla Ward's red shoes in City of Death don't get nearly enough love.

Ugh. Jo Grant. She's supposed to a capable military something something, but she's more like some teenage girl on work experience. Found myself deeply irritated by her character throughout Pertwee's run, so I'm pleased she's in so much of it. Hooray.
Just watched 'The War Games' for the first time. Deserves its reputation as one of the great Who stories of all time, but makes the fatal flaw of showing its hand too soon meaning you get at least four episodes of the same shizzle happening "Arrest them! They're spies!" "No we're not!" , rinse and repeat until episode 7. Shame as well that we're stuck mostly in 1917 and a barn to represent the US Civil War. Favourite bit? Just the moment the Doctor and the War Chief eyes meet and they recognise each other as fellow Time Lords. Brilliant, brilliant stuff. Even knowing about the Timelords (is it Time Lords or Timelords?) now, there's still some great tension to their reveal and the Doctor's panic about wanting to get away before they arrive. Properly bleak ending too, with the Doctor's sad little remark "they wont remember me, will they?" and Zoe looking back like she's forgotten something important somehow much more resonant than the hysterics and melodrama we got with Donna Noble.

What I like about The Green Death is how the Brig has just given up entirely at that point. "You're going to disobey orders and go to Wales? Fine, I'll drive".
The Doctor getting twatted by a planet is hilarious as well.
War Games is brilliant, padded (though I think it's only with some of the escaping and being recaptured from the War Lord's base stuff that drags a lot) but revelling in it. Almost proto-Blackadder in some of the black comedy about WWI as well.

Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Part 2.Tetsuro wrote:Which Pertwee story was the one where he was trying to concentrate on something and people were bugging him left and right, and finally the Brig comes in and he's all like "Oh there you are Doctor, now what are you up to" and he clutches his face and lets out a loud "urgh"?

Oh yes, leagues ahead. Which helps as her character basically degrades with bad writing as she goes along, meaning Sladen is holding the whole thing together herself.
Just found out today from THIS site that the closest place Who has been to where I live isn't the quarry from the Krotons as I thought, but Bewdley Severn Vally Railway station in Black Orchid (presumably stock footage though so I guess it's still the Krotons).

Brend survived the Pertwee era!
He'll never be the same again.
