I suppose if the thrid one completely and utterly bombs at the American box office it might wind up straight to DVD in some countries. Possibly.

Countries without cinemas, that sort of thing, yeh? Does the Vatican have a cinema? What about Scotland?

The Vatican does, Scotland (to the best of my knowledge) had all it's cinema's destroyed back in the 90's in protest as Braveheart.

Orci and Kurtzman are off the project. Other dude that wrote lots of horror movies and Reindeer Games still on, apparently.

So, we've got the principle writers jumping ship, a director who's already burned on the idea by his own admission (no year off for you, Michael Bay!), and a "let's make this as quickly as possible" release date set.

Those two writers are a loss, reading the Don Murphy boards Orci comes across as being unhappy with their treatment by Bay

On the other hand, Star Trek 12 will probably be aiming to start at about the same time so they probably had to make a choice of which to pump for (remember that although the last ones came out close together Trek was held back for six months so the scripting wouldn't have been so parallel). They've gone for the one that gives them more potential variety to work with and that they haven't done two of in a row. Makes sense to me.

Judging by the films of theirs I've seen so far, they know a lot more about Star trek than about Transformers.
They just need a few family guy writers to take a pen and some tip-ex over the 1986 movie's script and voila! Transformers 3

i'm a pretty hardcore fan of the original series (i.e when trek was good)
but ill admit ST11 felt more like star wars than star trek

Well, by the sounds of their interviews, Orci and Kurtzman haven't actually had any input in the first two films anyway. Their role basically seems to be to blame Michael Bay for anything going...

There's a downside - you have to be interviewed by Transformers fans.

If by interview you mean queried doggedly at random intervals while in public.

Would you like to be out walking around, enjoying life and suddenly some bastard with three-inch thick glasses, Wotsity fingers and a Decepticon logo t-shirt leaps out at you, sweating like a muvver, and starts demanding to know the measurements for Arcee's robojugs?

Plus side: all the blowjobs you'd ever want.
Down side: they'd be from the aforementioned Transformers fans. and not the hot ones, either.

Though it's probably better than what the fans try to do to Megan Fox...

There is hot ones? Dammit. We are no longer a viable geek franchise then.
