Transformers Ongoing #2 covers

Post by Hennessy »

Got these from Ryall's blog

http://ryalltime.blogspot.com/2009/09/t ... ssion.html
And then we have issue 2's covers, being seen here for the first time (first one by Don and James, Bumblebee variant cover by Andrew Wildman, who'll be doing variant covers for each issue of the first storyline):

The Wildman cover is awesome back peddling on his part. One of the things he said at AA was he'd just been offered a run of covers by IDW but wasn't sure of taking them as they don't pay very well (plus there was his "I'm done with Transformers" thing from the year before).

That said it's actually a fairly niffty bit of work by him.

As for the other cover, I suppose we're meant to be getting all excited at the name check for Rodimus, but after Tankor it's to hard to be sure if they're randomly renaming all the characters after their classics toys...

EDIT: The targeting circle around Red Alert actually makes it look as if he's wearing a space helmet...

Yay, Red Alert. Still can't get Don's new faces, but the art is brilliant. Rodimus... probably an upgrade into Rodimus-sort-of-Prime somewhere down the line...

Bumblebee! Yays!

I do like the way IDW have forsaken the one thing they were close to doing right, the artwork, in order to chase the Movie dollars.

I dont mind the new faces so much, but I really think they should have all the artists at least try to get someway close to the main artist (I'm assuming Don). The bumblebee cover, while looking decent, jars heavily with the group shot.

Cover 1 wasn't brilliant, cover 2 neither. And Rodimus never has been one of the cool guys.

Bumblebee looks great.

Something about Bumblebee's face strikes me as odd. He looks ghoulish. Maybe if his eyes were colored or his face was colored more gray. Or both.

That cover reminds me of Plight of the Bumblebee.

Nail in the coffin as far as me bothering with the ongoing. If it's any good, I'll maybe consider the trades. But I'm largely thinking IDW has jumped the shark for me.

meantime, I'll be sat in the corner rocking back and forth hugging my -ation series and Hearts of Steel TPB's to my chest, weeping.

I quite like the Andrew Wildman cover. Not fussed about the Don cover. It's a shame Su isn't on the books as his work was excellent throughout.

I like the body designs, but not feeling the faces. If it looked something like this with the familiar faces and new body design I think it'll look better.

I like their designs, but I didn't recognise Rodimus when I first saw him.

The group shot reminds me of the Classics toys, particularly Prowl. And look...they snuck some Wolverine blades onto Rodimus. ;)

Is it just me, or does everyone in the group shot have a conquistador moustache?

The designs, while not terrible are making a certain amount of apathy within me. I'm starting to get a horrible feeling that if something does not grab my attention soon, I'm going to start moving away from the hobby.

This year has had TF:ROTF, AHM, The cancellation of Animated, and this.

I prefered 1994. Less disapointment.:)
