What is on your playlist right now?

Post by Ackula »

My other thread gave me this idea...

This is a simple but cool concept, list what bands are currently on your playlist and getting the most attention out of you. You can list specific songs if you want, or just the bands. I'm strapped for time right now so I'm just going to do bands, and will probably add more to it later, including links.

My current playlist features the following bands...

Hank III
HorrorPops
Hagalaz' Runedance
357 String Band
Those Poor Bastards
Wayne Hancock
Hank Williams
AntiSeen
GG Allin
The Coffinshakers
Arson Anthem
Assjack
Melvins
Darkthrone
Mayhem
Ayumi Hamasaki
Utada Hikaru
Tommy Heavenly6
Carcass
Devil Doll
Misfits
Samhain
Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks
Sons of Perdition
Superjoint Ritual
Switchblade Symphony
Deicide
Cannibal Corpse
Acid Bath
Loreena Mckennitt
Nebelhexe
Mortiis
Johnny Cash

In no particular order -

Pearl Jam - Ten
Death - Sounds of Perseverance
Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka
Bentley Rhythm Ace - Bentley Rhythm Ace
Johnny Cash - Live at Folsom Prison
Machine Head - The Blackening
Fun Lovin Criminals - 100% Columbian
Carcass - Heartwork

It's a mixed bag, but I change what I listen to depending on what my mood is and where I'm going.
I tend to listen to albums in one go & look for little gems that I've long since forgotten by compiling my own playlists rather than listen to playlists of songs I've listened to over and over again. It's how I learned to further appreciate 100% Columbian and Welcome to Poppy's.
It's little wonder that the guys at work are always intrigued and a little scared when my mp3 player gets on the amp :D:devil:

Um,
  • Mansun's 'Little Kix' album
  • Manic Street Preachers 'Send Away the Tigers' album, and;
  • Muse 'Absolution'
I'm surprised how mellow Little Kix is. It reminds me of Suede's 'A New Morning', which I rather liked despite it apparently getting a lot of flak.

Well, if we go by what I listen to at work(nice thing about my new job).....

In no particular order:

Tommy Heavenly6
Skye Sweetnam
Nickleback
UnSun
Rammstein
KMFDM
The Used
Offspring
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy(the first two series)
Journey of the Sorcerer by the Eagles
Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Unfortunately, most of the music I've been listening to is what I had on my PDA and my little MP3 player, as my computer desiced to have a windows-related meltdown a while ago. And, as I was getting bored with listening to the same songs over and over again(while I can listen to musc at work, work isn't the most mentally stimulating place, sadly. Stress free, and kinda boring), I've been listening to old radio shows.

Currently, I'm plowing my way through what's freely available of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater intermixed with episodes of The Goon Show.
As a professional tanuki (I'm a Japanese mythological animal, and a good luck charm), I have an alarm clock built into me somewhere. I also look like a stuffed animal. And you thought your life was tough......

Very nice choices, I have those albums too, I prefer Swansong over Heartwork though both are excellent. Nile is from my home state and I've met Mr. Sanders on many occasions as they used to open for almost every extreme metal band that played in NC/SC. I would really suggest his solo stuff, very cool mix of egyption styled music and new age/ambience. ;)

I love Little Kix, even though I'm apparently in a minority on it. Even the band don't seem to proud of it, but it's lurvely to me. Think I only ever listened to A New Morning the once... didn't hate it, but it didn't draw me back in. I really should dig it back out again.

Stuff getting the most attention from me right now:
- Ladyhawke
- MGMT
- Bloc Party "Intimacy" (album)
- Black Kids "Partie Traumatic" (album)
- Crystal Castles vs HEALTH "Crimewave" (track)
- The Gaslight Anthem "The '59 Sound" (album)
- Kings of Leon (whatever the new album's called. I suck)
- Primal Scream (all of it... seeing them live a few weeks ago completely reinvigorated my love for everything they've done)

Dee D. Jackson - Cosmic Curves
Animetal - various Marathons
The Damned - Grave Disorder (so better than the 1970s stuff)
Bowie - various Philly Dogs/Outside Tour bootlegs
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Sophie Ellis Bextor - The Light Fantastic (well, the first side anyway)
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Wings of Honneamise OST

I saw Primal Scream a year or two ago and wasn't hugely impressed. I was more into the light show that was going on around them. I think partly it was because it was at the Corn Exchange and you had to be seated to watch them, which seemed totally at odds with the music. A month or so earlier I saw James Dean Bradfield at The Junction and was feet away from him. He deafened us all and it was a bit like being one of the Riders of Rohan when the king bloke is giving his stirring speech and gets the crowds all riled up and ready for murder. It was like that.

By contrast Primal Scream was more like light tea with the Guardian at eleven on a sunday. Ok really not like that, but it didn't make me want to go out and riot, or require a pretty nurse to stop blood gushing from my ears.

I think Suede are cool. I missed the opportunity to see Brett Anderson when he was touring his solo album. Gutted at that.

I bought the Little Kix album just for 'I Can Only Dissapoint U'. Even though I had the single, the album track version has another 10 seconds at the start, which, despite only repeating that lovely riff, was a total deal-maker for me.

A lot of old stuff... Disturbed, T.A.T.U, The Tea Party, Korn, Evanescence, Staind, Foo Fighters, Starsailor, Atreyu, Fear Factory, Trapt, Rasmus, Trews, with some of the newer stuff by Linkin Park, Serj Tankian, finger eleven, Puddle of Mudd, Airbourne and Wolfmother... some random game music and Jonathan Coulton thrown in and also downloaded a bunch of Christmas tunes last week.

It's strange the things music makes you remember sometimes, isn't it? Hm.

I saw the Scream at the Cornex beginning of the month - was right down near the front, so was actually able to hear what was going on. The acoustics in that place truly are godawful, aren't they? Supposedly further back you couldn't hear a thing.

They played a proper rock n roll set, though. Lots of stuff from XTRMNTR. They were proper up for it, probably due to the major league hissy fit they threw about ten minutes in when somebody chucked a beer at Bobby. Stropped off with a "feck alla yews" before returning a few minutes later so Mani could call us all c**ts and challenge whichever prick threw it to come up on stage so they could kick his head in.

Being two people from the front railings did result in being able to hear everything, but also resulted in being right in front of the speaker stack for when they finished with Accelerator. Coupled with the most brutal strobelights I've ever seen. The phrase "my eyelids! they do nothing!" would have been heard coming from my mouth if I'd actually been able to talk. Or move. I'm sure I felt my liver vibrate out of my back.

Took three days for my hearing to return, too.

Best. Gig. Ever.

I love her. I have this overwhelming feeling I shouldn't, but I do and I have no guilt over it. Some of it may be partially related to the interview of hers I heard on Scott Mills a few weeks back. She's mad as a sack of epileptic badgers. How can you not adore that?

I think you'll love Ladyhawke too, Cliffster.

I Kissed a Girl gets so much play over here... I swear to multiple gods and deities that every stupid little 20-year-old moron has that song as their ringtone. It drives me insane. And yet, I still catch myself humming along once in awhile when I hear it. And the rest of the album it's from is surprisingly listenable.
