Powerpuff Girls get anime...

Post by DrSpengler »

Supposedly Toei is doing this debacle of a magical girl anime. The designs are based off that Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi web comic.

Here's a bunch of screenshots from the preview (I guess):

For anyone wondering, the promotional sign reads "Dema****a! Pawa Pafu Gaaruzu Z!"

So I guess the title is "Come forth! Powerpuff Girls Z!"

Blech.

Oh, crap. I was hoping there wouldn't be any copycats or spin-offs but it looks I'm SOL. Can someone please tell me if they're seeing what I'm seeing? Does that girl in red have a yo-yo for a weapon? The blue one uses giant soap bubbles and the green one uses a hammer that looks similar to Amy Rose's from the Sonic the Hedgehog series?

Thanks, Zeeks! Great job!

Is this some kind of official comic or a fan made one?

I would of rather seen that web comic get a show. I'm not surprised there's an anime of PPG over there, heard the show is really popular over there.

I've seen a couple episodes of the American series dubbed in Japanese. The voices are surprisingly accurate to their American counterparts, I have to say. At times it sounds like the American cast speaking in Japanese. I was impressed with that much.

Amazing - how is it then that when the reverse happens, 9 times out of 10 they manage to utterly balls things up beyond belief and you end up with characters who sound nothing like their japanese language voices.. Can think of a few movies/cartoons that would've been improved if they had've spent a little bit more time & effort on things like that..

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I adored Ocean Group's dub of Dragonball Z (the first and second season) and those hardly sounded like the Japanese counterparts.

ADV's dub of Lupin III is hystarical; one of the best I've ever heard. They don't sound remotely like Yamada Yasuo and co but they put their own stamp on the characters which make them so entertaining. Funimation's dub of Lupin III I could do without.

And Japan screws up on American stuff just as much as we mess up their's. The Japanese cast for the G1 cartoon was terrific, I thought. But the Japanese dub for Beast Wars; atrocious.

So making a characer sound totally different when dubbing isn't always a bad thing, you just have to do it GOOD.

It's so ridiculously, utterly, sugary cute that I absolutely must see it. It even has Octi in it!

Mahou shoujo anime owns me. :(
