Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Makes sense; has there been any intimation that Cosmos as a Bumblesaucer retool was the original plan? It seems easily doable with that mould as well. They actually released pics of the design sketches for the retool and even what looks like a partial prototype of the thing. I like it significantly...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

You can tell how much I bothered to look at what was inside the pretender shells. Should still be possible to get them off, but recasting or 3D printing alternatives might be better in that case. I don't think I ever noticed myself, I just remembered hearing people gripe that it made customs harder...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I was happy with NN essentially being the original figure with joints. And that's what they're going for with this line, for the most part. It's successful within its scope. Not many of the Legacy toys I've seen are as close to being 1:1 updates as Needlenose here. Kickback is the only one I'd put ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I just checked my Overlord, and both Prime Masters slid out OK. Maybe ones with different shaped "faces" are more likely to get stuck. I cannot remember which ones I used, but the fit is tight enough that having slightly thicker paint, or being a fraction of a millimetre wider, is probabl...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I didn't mind the super simple TMs on the G1 toys, but it doesn't work for me paired with a modern, articulated figure. It totally depends on what you're looking for, though! Zigzag and Sunbeam are definitely 80s accurate, if that's what you're looking for with your double TMs. But I feel like this ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

You're right that those Leaders aren't 70% better than Voyagers. But, you could also take the wallet-half-full perspective and think that Voyagers are a bargain. I would say that $53 Galvatron is at least twice the toy of a $25 Deluxe Datsun. But, that Datsun also seems like a bad deal when you can...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Needlenose I cannot believe that I have a modern toy of freaking Needlenose of all people. Like, not a cheap repaint of an Aerialbot or something, but an actual, dedicated Needlenose mold. It's at least twice as crazy as when they did Spinister! No, really, Spinny has the crazy colours and u...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Yep, yep. And they're just too small, IMO. The thrilling 30 Brainstorm voyager was the smallest size that allowed for stylistic flair. When we first heard that they were doing a line based on Headmasters, I thought for sure that just meant that the Voyagers and Leaders would be Headmasters and the ...

Re: Top 10 Transformers of 2022!

How did you end up liking him? As a toy it's not the greatest...if I'd bought the show-colours version I probably wouldn't have liked it very much. But it turns into an angry shark-plane with eye-searing colours and it's got a giant fish for a gun. How could I not love it? I think it's actual...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Just the separate head aspect, and snap... I find the heads charming, honestly. Having little drivers for the alt-modes is cute! I wouldn't want them to do it again, a year's worth of toys like that was enough, but I enjoy it on most of the figures I've got. I understand why not everyone does, thou...

Re: [The video game thread]

I was actually just saying to my wife last night, "It's so weird that Roblox and Minecraft are still a thing, they've been around forever". I bought Minecraft for my sisters' kids on the Xbox 360! Roblox first came out before the Wii! It's not a bad thing, it's just...so different to how t...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

The only actual plus to TR figures was heads for customs If you're painting the entire line with that brush, I can't agree at all. I'm pretty sure I still have more TR toys out on display than any other line, because it produced some of my very favourite figures! The Decepticon Targetmasters, the J...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

There's almost always a simple way around completely hollow lower arms or lower legs. There is, but I honestly feel like hollowness can be a good thing if the designers use it intelligently. ER Smokescreen and TR Skullcruncher come to mind as examples where I've seen lots of fans slating them onlin...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Depends how competent but not particularly inspiring it usually is. IMO, pepperoni just needs some onion (and chillies if available) added to be a preferred pizza. But then it's not a pepperoni pizza anymore, it's a pepperoni and onion and chili pizza! Which is a great analogy for Autobot cars nowa...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Mmm, shame that Game haven't somehow acquired Botropolis Rescue Mission stock, I'm actually a bit annoyed at remould releases having failed to be exploited better, and the same with Haslab crowdfund perks including Micromasters. Hasbro's completely fluffed updating Micromaster teams. I was annoyed ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Apologies in advance for the huge wall of text! My view with GS is the train mode's too hard to ignore and the body doesn't use the nosecone so the original toy's only distinctive features aren't there, plus postage is a bit of a rip off, but I do like a space shuttle and the launchpad is a nicer fe...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy "Wreck and Rule" Springer Siege Springer basically didn't come out here. I think it was available to order on the Toys'R'Us website for an hour or so, one random day a year after it came out everywhere else in the world. That was it for online availability as far as I saw, at least...

Re: Top 10 Transformers of 2022!

Interesting choices for sure! I haven't heard people talk about that Alpha Trion much, I guess because it was a convention/Pulse exclusive. The vintage picks were interesting too, Animated Jackpot looks great and the Jazz he's based on is a killer toy. If I'd been including stuff that was "new ...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

Weirdly the stock head goes in the opposite direction to the original -- too small (to match the inner titanmaster scale) rather than massively too big like the old PM toy. The original PM Op actually looks better with this 3P head -- I figure the original toy's head must have been scaled to look g...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

Not a huge fan of that TR toy but the 3P head really improves the silhouette. I think the stock head was based on the original toy but it was way too narrow for the brick wall of a robot that we got in TR. Also agreed on the chest, the fake Powermaster look was just sad. Though I think the main adva...
