Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

Marvel Legends Venom 3 Pack (Venom/ Riot/ Agony) Nice set of symbiote figures based on the pretty awful 'Lethal Protector' mini-series from 1993. Riot is nice a beefy chunk of ugly in blue, Agony is the pink one because she's a girl and there's also Venom with a big wiggly tongue face which I like ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I think the currently design philosophy is to maximise mold re-use with as little new tooling as possible, leading to everyone having to carry design traits for 6 different versions of a character or adjacent characters. Kind or economical, if unsatisfying. ... As well as leaving the feet just hangi...

Toxitron Collection eyesores! G2 Universe Autobot Jazz Red/ orange hot mess that's more Sex On The Beach cocktail than robot in disguise, with the added annoyance to fans who bought the SS86 proper deco of having two additional weapons. One looks like a hairdryer and the other is a stubby version of...

Re: Rise of the Beasts (spoilers)

Saw this last Thursday; audience seemed quite excited for the film beforehand with a lot of chatter. At the end, there was a single cry of "Awesome!". I enjoyed it. Not as good as Bumblebee, but not far behind. Really enjoyed Noah Diaz in this and forgot for a minute I was watching a Trans...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

MP-53+B Diaburnout What a clunky name. Anyway, this is the black version of Skids homaging the original Diaclone line. It looks stunning! The black makes this odd compact car look very sexy, and the robot mode is very nice. I kind of prefer the battlemask face the Legacy Speedia version has, but wi...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I think I'd have a cardboard inner tray and plastic window... which is er, kind of what Transformers went for. I wonder why Hasbro didn't apply that logic to their other action figure lines. I'm not one for keeping boxes (well aside from the Japanese TF stuff I have - except Masterpiece, all those b...

Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

Ooh! Speaking of Hot Wheels, I got a 5 pack of Batman themed vehicles. They're neat but a bit silly - the made up Muscle Bound and '49 Merc have Robin and Batgirl's likenesses plastered all over them. The '11 Dodge Charger makes for a nice beefy GCPD car and there's the ever excellent '66 Batmobile ...

Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

I've never been hugely into Turtles, but loved reading all that! I hadn't realised how mad the current marketing of Turtles stuff is. I really liked hearing how you and your son have a toyline you're both into. That;s cool :) I keep forgetting to post stuff in here. I bought Spider-Gwen from upcomin...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Saw Hasbro are ending closed box packaging, following a nosedive in sales as consumers didn't recognise what was being sold. I wonder how badly Transformers was affected, given that their boxes haven't been completely closed on all products, with cut outs and (in the case of the Speedia 500 line) fu...

Legacy Evolution Shrapnel Nice update of the original; slavishly so - just like Kickback. In someways, this era of hyper-articulated figures suits the Insecticons. They didn't have the most complex of transformations and lend themselves well to the Marvel Legends-ification of the toyline. I like hi...

Re: Why is Lio convoy popular and what about Big convoy?

What Denyer said. Also seems to have some cache in Japan, given the Robot Master and Masterpiece toys, which made him an "obvious" pick for Generations/Legacy; 'People paid money for the MP, so lets do one for the main line'. Worked on me, as I like the look of the MP Beast Wars stuff, but...

I'll stick with Energon Arcee, then. And her weird thaliidomyde arms. Stuffs what I got: Legacy Core Class Bomb-Burst Neat little rat bag that turns from bat-headed doofus into a jet thingy thng. Great little toy and a nice way to modernise Pretenders. More of these Hasbro, and less of Shite like Le...

Legacy Transmetal II Megatron Crikey, what an excellent figure this is! I loved the original TMII toy; I wasn't so enamoured with all the spring loaded features (especially the missile above his head, which I repeatedly launched into my face - not smart enough to take it out) so it's nice to have a...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

So, er, I ended up with quite a lot of pick ups in January, seeing as the sales on Transformers have been really, really good this year (or there's a lot of stuff I was on the fence about and the prices dropped low enough to have a punt). I'll start with the new bits what I got! Legacy Inferno Round...

Re: Could have Ultra Magnus have been easier for the fandom to accept as the new leader rather than Rodimus Prime ?

That's a good one! Rodimus probably had better characterisation in the old cartoon compared to Optimus, he seemed more rounded to me, having doubts everyone has about their ability to lead, whereas Optimus was a bit one-note. Rodimus being the leader "in the future" was a good proposition,...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

I'm hoping for something either like Legacy Motormaster, but with a longer trailer (I've not liked the rubbishy looking trailers Prime toys come with. Motormaster's is alright, but does feel a bit stubby. I know these shorter trailers exist in the real world. but they always look funny) or a riff on...

Re: Was the problem with Transformers the movie they killed Optimus Prime and the others or everyone did not see it?

Couple of things, Hasbro then viewing it's Transformers as product, rather than character, so killing of a swathe of children's favourites in the first 20 minutes of a film aimed at kids didn't go down well. Maybe they should have watched Watership Down first..! Second, at least here in the UK, the ...

I'd like to say the same about MOTU, but since it's been binned from Smyth's, that's kind of done it for me. Online stuff gets snapped up too quickly to be worth the bother, but I'm happy with the stuff I managed to collect :) DId pick up a bunch of the Revelations stuff that ended up in TKMaxx and ...
