Re: Could have Ultra Magnus have been easier for the fandom to accept as the new leader rather than Rodimus Prime ?

If they did the may cartoon may have gone on longer I've wondered this myself! I was a bit younger than the franchise's original target audience -- I was born in 1984, so Rodimus was the Prime I grew up with as far as the cartoon goes. When I discovered the online fandom I realized that most fans w...

Re: Top 10 Transformers of 2022!

I didn't realise Orange Tigatron was 2022. Despite sticking a Tracks head on him to go with Grimlock, it's still kind of what a lot of people described it as at the time -- a tiger toy you might expect to find in a zoo gift shop. I initially thought Tigatron was a 2021 figure as well because it doe...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

I've just acquired one with some QC issues for twenty quid from someone who in turn got it from a discount clearance outlet (I think for about Leader price) and got sent a replacement. It feels like it has a lot in common with the MP in terms of some of the over-complexity, and the trailer/base par...

Well, that's 100 times better than any official Transformer toy the character's ever gotten! Really well done.

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

That's why I have such a hard time wrapping my head around it all. I don't own either of the previous Magnuses, but I've searched up a lot of images of both of them to try to figure out what to expect. Based on these pictures I've stolen from Google, it seems like Kingdom/Siege Magnus more or less g...

Re: Why was the Transformers movie 35 anniversary toyline split between Studio series and Kingdom?

I doubt they'd made any plans for the TV show yet by the time the toyline plans shifted. The decision would have had to have been made a year or two before the toys actually came out, so it would have been well before they got to that point in developing the Kingdom show.

Re: Top 10 Transformers of 2022!

I had to give this a lot of thought because I bought so few new toys in 2022! Only thirteen, actually, and that's after I decided to include a couple late-2021 releases that I only got early last year. I suppose I could have included the recent Beast Wars reissues in the mix, but that feels disingen...

Re: Was the Power of the Primes Toyline cut short and if so why and what else was planned?

I don't think POTP was cut short. The entire line leaked towards the end of Titans Return and it was always intended to only run three or four waves. It felt short at the time because the lines before it tended to run for six to eight waves, and I do remember some speculation that the final waves ha...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

The only time I remember seeing Magnus actually carry cars was in the commercial bumper, but that actually stands out a lot more than anything that happened in the show since you'd see it once an episode. wna3bt1tdq4 Good point about the cost-cutting. I could definitely see it impacting Magnus's acc...

Re: Why was the Transformers movie 35 anniversary toyline split between Studio series and Kingdom?

My understanding is that all the '86 movie stuff was originally going to be in WFC part 3, and that they were planning to move on to BW designs in the subsequent line. But their plans for Beast Wars characters got moved up in order to build hype for the original Rise of the Beasts release date (whic...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.

I like Kingdom Rodimus, but I got it on clearace for Leader-class prices. It was definitely the most heavily discounted Commander around these parts. The aesthetic definitely isn't very Sunbow, either. I could see them trying to make a cartoonier Rodimus at Leader-class, with the trailer integrated ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Beast Wars Buzzsaw Honestly pretty disappointing. The face sculpt is ugly and the colours don't compare very well to the original. BW Buzz Saw was bright and kinda goofy looking. This version is trying to look less silly but the designers lost a lot of the charm along the way. I woild also s...

Re: Your Latest Non-TF Toy Acquisitions

I think that head mold has been included with a few different Logans, but that specific one might be the one that came with the the brown-suit retro Wolverine. I've always wanted to do the same thing with my Old Man Logan but none of the five or so Wolverines I own came with the unmasked head. I loo...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Still can't believe that the Titan Cybertron Metroplex was viable in the first place. With the way Hasbro has been approaching their "big figures" lately, I think they see less risk of it winding up massively clearanced than there was a few years ago. It seems like a smaller initial produ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Original Retraxes listed as complete seem fairly cheap over here. YMMV but every "complete" Retrax I looked at before the reissue came out (and a couple Powerhugs too) were missing the same piece that mine is. It's so common that I get the impression most sellers don't even realize that t...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

It's doubly weird since Skullgrin already had a deluxe figure years ago. That's not a comment on the current availability of the 2010 (or 2012?) figure, but rather just that they doubled up on Skullgrin being larger than the other pretenders. Yeah, in isolation there's nothing wrong with a Deluxe S...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I'm jealous of the clearanced Beast Wars reissues. The last few waves haven't been stocked at my local stores at all, after they had to clear out the 30+ Primals, Rattraps and Cheetors every Walmart had on the shelves. I think Tigatron was the last one I saw? So full price from the website is the on...

Re: Anyone else thoroughly enjoying the Twitter dumpster fire?

It's been an absolutely beautiful slow-motion car crash, starting months ago with the "Elon is on the board"/"Elon is off the board"/"Elon is going to buy the entire site to spite the board" display of childish pettiness. But I really didn't expect things to get this ba...

I am so glad that they're finally making good on the teases they made back during...Titans Return, I think? I know you've been waiting patiently (ish) ever since.

Too bad it's Haslab, though. :(

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

A few new things showed up this week! Beast Wars Vintage Terrorsaur Kind of a QC disaster, honestly. The peg that holds the spring-loaded transformation in place was so tight that I almost snapped his head off switching him to robot mode, but the ball joints were so loose that the figure could barel...
