Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
I went through the Newest Acq thread to see how many TFs I actually bought in 2022. It was over 50, so on average, 1 a week. I thought maybe I was being too pessimistic about distribution if I'm finding that many figures. Checking again, everything between Legacy Soundwave (25 Sep) and Velocitron Cr...

I combined my newly acquired, just opened Exo-Suit with my other 4 Weaponizers and made this guy.

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
Having just seen new Earthspark stuff at my local Walmart, I figured I'd spend the afternoon hitting other stores to see if they'd also gotten new stuff in, and if I'd want any of it. 2 Walmarts, 2 Targets, a comic shop, Gamestop, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Best Buy, Kohl's, and Ollie's and nothing. One W...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
I just checked my Overlord, and both Prime Masters slid out OK. Maybe ones with different shaped "faces" are more likely to get stuck. I had the grey one with a pink Decepticon logo-ish design, and a teal/purple one with a circular design. Though, I may swap that one out and give one of my...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!
Earthrise Deluxe Terran Twitch - A good looking figure with a frustrating transformation. Basically, the joints you have adjust to get everything to tab into place provide more resistance than the tabs themselves. So, as you try to adjust things to get the next set of tabs inserted, the previous se...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
Like, the size and complexity difference between Galvatron and Cyclonus is about the same as the difference between Cyclonus and Scourge. In no way does Galvatron pack in 70% more value than Cyclonus, but that's how he's priced. And he's one of the "good" examples. BW Megatron likewise......

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
Yeah, if Leaders routinely dropped to $40something here I'd have happily picked up a few of the ones I skipped over at regular price. Unfortunately Shockwave is the only one I can remember dropping that low, and honestly I felt like I still paid a little bit more than he was worth. The actual Shock...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
When I say the engineering has plateaued, I don't mean it's reached maximum complexity, but maximum effectiveness. Take the old CHUG Prowl/Streak mold with the integrated shoulder cannons, for example. It was great for when it came out, but has problems that stood out even then: awkward neck plate, ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
Only recent-ish regrets are that the Wreckers Springer and Impactor are nicer than the regular retail ones. Hasbro's really worked quite hard to ensure that customers pass on things because they know another version's likely to be just around the corner. If that's what they were going for... You me...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management
And not pitched it as a limited exclusive then allowed it go to discount wholesalers -- apparently Kapow and other retailers got a list of stuff like this they could buy from. The clear message is: don't buy, wait, lose interest even if it does come around like this. This reminds me of TLK Dleuxe H...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.
The Autobot cars there are coming up to mid-thigh on MP Magnus. Carry that over to Generations-sized figures and you're talking about a pretty darn big toy. I compared Siege Prowl to some of my bigger figures just to get an idea, and I think that hypothetical Magnus would wind up being around half-...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.
Maybe Hasbro think they can get away with selling a Leader-sized version of Titanium Ultra Magnus as a Commander? A big chunk of this fandom will make all sorts of excuses for the profiteering and buy it anyway as long as it looks enough like the cartoon. There are certainly enough folks out there ...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.
Assuming that a Commander Magnus would be roughly the same size, complexity and volume of plastic as Rodimus or MM, I don't think the Magnus armour is more complicated than the MM trailer/base, and that comes with a separate robot. I'm not saying they can't design and sell a Commander SS UM with a ...

Kre-O Airachnid - Her bot feet tab together, and her head is hinged to turn straight up, so she can assume her spider form. No helicopter mode, though.

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.
Scale is also a good point. If they're going to be sticklers for that, I'm pretty sure cartoon Magnus should be smaller than the Dinobots. How you'd get that out of a Commander-sized vehicle, I'm not sure. I'm honestly hoping they don't try, and just make the toy as big as a to-scale car carrier ne...

Re: Expectations of SS Commander class Ultra Magnus.
SS is slightly more high-end than CW and Hasbro have largely gotten on-board with Magnus as white Prime whenever they want add value (or do a cheap repaint without the blue armour). And the rest of the line has leaned into downsized MP releases, so good odds. On the other hand, Hasbro has also larg...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!
I got Holiday Optimus Prime for Christmas. The cab/bot is great. It's got a rather involved transformation that produces one of the cleanest at modes I've seen in a while. The back of the cab actually looks like the back of a cab instead of robot arms partially folded away. The part of the truck beh...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!
Refraktor Reconnaissance Team 3-pack - I'd heard this was showing up at Gamestop on clearance. It wasn't at my local one, so I asked an employee to check the stores near my parents. One there had it in stock, and my mom was able to pick it up for me. He's packed in camera mode. Mine was kind of mis...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!
I picked up some simple Cyberverse gimmick figures at Marshalls/TJ Maxx. I'm pretty happy with them. Spin Fin Sky-Byte - He's not quite a 1-step, since the arms have to be manually transformed. But, rotating the torso causes the legs to fold down. It seems like it should cause the head to come up, t...
