Random plot point continuity porn, Unicron, alternate universes, toy features being made into storyline devices... it's definitely one of the most JTF things ever.

Masterpiece Optimus Primal concept CGI stuff
http://news.tfw2005.com/2015/12/21/m...-render-307029

Gonna have to wait until I see the finished product, because as it stands the BW Returns version does me just fine.

Yeah, that looks very close to the original. Of course, part of the point behind Masterpiece (or Generations, or...) is creating a physical representation of a character whose previous appearances in media and toys are pretty divergent from one another. That's not really the case for stuff from Beast Wars and onward.

Yeah, it looks great but between the Robot Masters mold and the remolding they did to the original Ultra for those anniversary releases, the Masterpiece has a lot less room to dazzle us than G1 characters do. This looks almost the same and if it's going to be show-accurate it'll transform almost the same as well, so the only category where it can really improve is articulation. And even then the original was pretty good. Double-jointed knees, ankle tilts, opening hands and an articulated beast neck would all be cool but there's nowhere near as much wow factor in that as there is in seeing Prowl or Soundwave come to life.

I'd think they might give it a sort of rubbery skin as per Generations Rhinox and chuck in some die cast parts, but beyond that (as you say) all they can really do is up the articulation.

Yeah, and I mean that's not to say that every BW toy was a perfect match for its show counterpart (Generations Rhinox and Rattrap are wonderful updates for that), but Primal was already really, really close.

I wouldn't mind a new Dinobot, though. The design for the 2008 Universe mold works well enough, but they made it out of what feels like cheap, bendy plastic.

Takara Legends Skids...was he overdue by a year or two?

May release.

United Bruticus teaser. Vortex and Blast off appear remoulded.

Like the pink on Skids, but probably not enough to upgrade from the Hasbro one which is frankly chocca with paint anyhoo.

Eagerly waiting to see if Takara's Bruticus does have a space shuttle Blast Off...

Skids looks better and could live with the pink, but not enough to replace... and Colossus will do nicely as Bruticus; good to see Takara trying, though. Their Computron's deffo likely to be the one to watch for anyone after a CW one.

Speculation and "insider" info from a guy that I don't particularly trust, but Takara might be putting out a few more Beast toys than just Primal. Cheetor, Megatron and Rattrap name-dropped.

Definitely way, way too good to be true but interesting if we go beyond Primal for this year.

Info was supposedly from a hasbro asia meeting with retailers.

Who wants some blurry catalogue scans featuring a black and white picture of Unite Warriors Blast-Off?

Question

But will it come with the little Shockwave? That's a deal breaker, right there.

Doubtful, given that Takara didn't bother with Powerglide, Blackjack or Groove-is-in-the-heart.

Doubtful. I don't think any of the Unite Warriors sets have come with the appropriate Legends figure.

No, the legends were all sold separately, as part of the TAV line. Groove was repainted into the Triggerbot Override, Blackjack into Runabout and Powerglide had a few minor changes (different paint apps, a lighter shade of grey on the arms and thighs, and a retooled chest to accommodate the TAV scannable sticker).

Presumably Shockwave will get similar treatment to Powerglide: maybe a slightly different colour base plastic, maybe more paint apps, and almost definitely a spot for that stupid sticker.

Powerglide and Blackjack are also being turned into Dogfight and Runamuck, part of a mail away incentive to buy the latest Generations guidebook.
