Over here, a spastic, is the same to us as to the British. I know our market of Transformers isn't influential at all, but it all just adds up...

@Optimusskids: Ever heard of the Nissan Pajero??? Pajero also has a rahter nice(sarcasm) meaning to it in Spanish XD

I had a strange flashback of watchin 'She's all that' the Freddie Prinze Jr master piece and I'm sure he calls a kid spaz in an affectionate term. I've used it in a playful insult way against a friend, but then if you're my friend you will suffer a barrage of expletives. But it's all about the delivery with me.

"Sup spaz!?"

"That's not my name..."

"Oh, sorry."

True story, other than that, Ian Dury was the king of spastics wasn't he?

"I am spasticus!"

Legendary, I hope they don't change the name.

I think the biggest irony is - if indeed it is true that the negative meaning in the UK is why the name Slag was ditched - that "slag" is actually most commonly used in a joking fashion here, much in the same way that "spaz" can be in the States.

On the mean streets of the East End, slag is the height of vulgarity.

But even if spastic isn't as offensive over there, I still don't get why it's the name of a transorming warrior robot from space.

Just follow the Scottish example everyone - we don't have any seriously offensive words here, only descriptors.

Can't believe I missed this one... although they'll probably rename him or something. But last time something like this was pointed out, they did nothing, right? During that whole Nexus Maximus fiasco?

And didn't they get away with Erector twenty years or so back?

What? We can't have a name discussion without Erector being mentioned...

Someone who posts at TFW decided this name was so horrible that he just had to call the UK newspapers. Hilarity ensues.

I'm guessing the person who wrote that does a lot of the wiki articles, the wacky comedic scamp.

I like the way it basically demonstrates the way a great many fans are as stupid as your average Sun/Mail reader. What a bunch of spastics*. Though I do like the anti-Hasbro brigade's attempts to stir a little outrage being met with general apathy. Most responses seem to boil down to the PCC ebing shit figures anyway.

* = Any of you mods kick off about that, we'll know that you're just PC Nazis

That Daily Mail article was disappintingly sensible. I normally expect them to get their facts wrong and their blood boiling considerably more than they did there.
