Takara Robotmasters?!?!?! Looks like Takara Universe to Me

Post by Brave Maximus »

Right - Anime HQ has annouced a new toy line from Takara. Where they take G2, Machine wars and Beast machine lines Repaint\Remold them and sell them as new. Sounds familiar right?
Well - For Japan, most of these toys were never issued. Japan didn't do the end G1 (European Exclusive)\Machinewars toys Nor did they get all the G2 stuff. So most of this is new for them (as opposed to Universe, which is the same old stuff with bad repainting).

AHQ has been flooded but TFormers.com is still running a gallery.
Seen here

The nice thing is - the repaints are quite nice (and not the ugliness of the early Universe toys) AND they all have something remolded. From first indications - it looks like they all have new weapons and such.

More as I hear it.

I was just noticing the same thing. It would be nice if these things released before Botcon in pasedena. Though I'm sure venders would go on a scalp spree anyway and charge double.

I like the Machine Wars Mirage repaint. I actually took MW Prowl (with a white MW Mirage head) and repainted him in Mirage's color scheme. Of course, that one looks better. ;)

Aaargh. So tempted by more show accurate versions of BW Megatron and Convoy. Luckily when I find out the actual imported price, I´m not going to be interested.

I just saw that G1 Starscream and if that thing comes into existence and can transform into that jet pictured next to it. I'm gonna get three of them so I can repaint two into Skywarp and Thundercracker.

So does this mean we will see more G1 re-release figures in future?

G1 reissues? What does that have to do with that new "Robotmasters" line?

Besides, Takara doesn't own the rights to the Shockwave mold, so you can "want" as much as you like, Takara won't be able to fulfil your wishes.

Of course - Repainting is a fun and cheap way of making massive profits. And of course, if Takara does it - they are brining you much sought after characters where as Hasbro is money grubbing bastards who are trying to force another repaint on you. But, to saw with this new mold of starscream - Takara is atleast putting a tiny bit of effort into the repaint line ;)

Well yes - Japan got those. But I'm talking about the Predators and Turbomasters Or MW Starscream, MW Soundwave, MW Prime and MW Sandstorm. The ones we are going to be seeing repainted and reissed here in North Am with Universe. :D

It does, however, appear to control rights to the likeness, and has a couple of decades of prior usage under its belt, culminating in Energon Shockblast. So... they could redesign from the likeness they own. A little unlikely, but probably no more unlikely than the resculptings suggested by the thumbnails.

Hmm.. this is an interesting line. I like the retooling of Optimus Prime and Beast Wars Megatron, but I have to wonder if the trailer will be included, and as to what size they might be. Some of the figures don't look bad, but then others still seem to have a crappy paint job. Their new weapons look cool, although they remind me profoundly of Beast Formers Weapons. If anybody remembers those little PVC figures with the rub signs for fire, wood, and water.

Is the Optimus Prime retooling an actual remold of MP Convoy or a miniaturized "junior" version as TFW 2005 have reported?

Hopefully a smaller version... might be worth importing, at that...

It would make sense. They're retooling moulds, so he'll be to the same scale as Starscream and all the rest.

It'd make a stab at it being smaller, as well - the construction of the inner legs with struts would seem to suggest small. Dunno why, just a guess :)

I can't see them making minor adjustments to such a high-price item, myself.

Damn, I'd consider importing for that show-accurate BW Megatron. The chest for the original is sooo blah.

That Starscream looks interesting, but I'm willing to bet we'll get that here at least at some point.

The MW Hoist/Hubcap repaint and the mouth-version Primal are just outrageous enough to go on the Must-Have list. I like 'em all, though.

Is it ok to reduce myself to some sort of fanboy-style raving over how damn cool that Starscream looks?

Just hope it's for real & all that :)
